Network discounts have become a pressing concern, as it reveals conflicts of interest and an unfavorable link between drugs and insurance. To address this problem, we must restore the true essence of insurance, shifting away from its role solely as a means of financing consumption. Adopting a cost-plus model can eliminate networks and dismantle the problematic alliance between insurers and pharmacy benefit managers. It is illogical that we have combined these two entities, resulting in excessive costs—8-10 times higher than what other countries pay—for drugs that we develop and bear the burden of for longer durations than they do.
The question remains: How can we rectify this situation?
