What happens when a CPA’s understanding of the business meets a tinkerer’s passion for technology?
Meet Joshua Sirbu, CPA, CFO and CTO at Nimlok Chicago—and a second-generation FEI Chicago member.
Joshua began in public accounting. With a master’s degree in accounting and a master’s certificate in data analytics, he has turned that foundation into an unconventional leadership path: helping build the systems and products that move his company forward.
After helping implement NetSuite, he now develops custom applications that make employees’ work easier and collaborates on innovations for the company’s trade show displays. For Joshua, the general ledger is a source of insight that can guide business strategy. AI and low-code and no-code tools help him turn that insight into solutions, with controls and security central to his approach.
“One lesson I’ve learned is that an unconventional career path can be a strength, not a limitation.”
His FEI connection began with his mother, Aurelia Sirbu, a longtime member and manufacturing finance leader whose mentorship helped shape his career. An FEI event she invited him to introduced AI concepts he now uses in his work.
And his curiosity keeps growing: Joshua is learning CAD software to bring his own product ideas to life in 3D.
Thank you, Joshua, for sharing your story and bringing a fresh perspective to our Year of the Member!
