Sandra Slavinsky’s father passed away three months after his house burned down and they bought a new home together. She has lived in the two-story Georgian home in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania since 1999.

“That was hard,” Sandra recalled. "Even harder was that he left behind a 4-year-old foster daughter. I ended up taking care of her, and eventually I adopted her.”

The next two decades continued to be difficult for Sandra. She developed a debilitating heart condition that, coupled with her asthma, means she is often in the hospital. “It’s a double-edged sword,” she said of her medical troubles. “On the one hand I’m missing work, and on the other I’ve got these huge medical bills.”

Because of her sky-high medical bills, Sandra fell behind on the mortgage for the house she’d bought all those years ago with her father.

After being delinquent for two years, AHP purchased Sandra’s loan and offered her favorable modification terms. After being afraid for years that she would lose the house, Sandra knew she had to take the deal.

“The offer AHP gave me, I’d be a fool not to take,” Sandra confessed.

G.W. Plunk and his wife became victims of America’s broken healthcare system when they were crushed by un-affordable medical bills. They were on the verge of losing the rental property that they have been living off of since retirement.

Plunk purchased a two-unit building in 1986 and renovated the entire thing. “Basically I rebuilt this house,” Plunk recalls. “I did the plumbing, I re-wired it, I did the siding. My sons helped with the work.”

Since Plunk retired from his job at the Sullair Corporation, he and his wife have primarily relied on income from their rental property to survive. But Mrs. Plunk fell into medical troubles, and the ensuing bills triggered a near foreclosure on the property.

She then suffered another auto accident in 1996, compounding her earlier injuries and causing her condition to rapidly deteriorate. The Plunks were retired by this point and the medical bills kept piling up; in 2006 Plunk’s wife had major surgery to realign the vertebrate in her neck.

Understanding the situation, American Homeowner Preservation stepped in to buy the mortgage. And everything turned around.

Meet Steve Grider, a machine adjuster at an envelope factory. He purchased a home in Indianapolis for his wife to operate her dog grooming business. He was making consistent and timely payments for years. However, a divorce led to financial catastrophe.

“Divorce put me through the grinder,” Grider said. “I’m still in bad shape.”

His now-ex wife no longer uses the property, but Grider still owned it and was making payments for as long as he could. But eventually, continuing to pay on the vacant home just wasn't making sense.

“The home was just sitting there, deteriorating rapidly,” Grider shared. So he approached AHP, which worked with him to find a solution in the form of a short sale.

A battle with prostate cancer was about to cost Joe Willie Hart the Atlanta home he bought nearly fifty years ago.
