Debt is a bummer. Fortunately, reducing debt isn’t as hard as you’d think. Here are two of the most common ways you can attack your debt.
▪️Avalanche approach▪️
Credit card interest rates are typically higher than rates on cars, mortgages, student loans, etc. And to be honest, paying interest on debt is wasting your hard-earned money.
So that’s where you’ll start attacking debt with the avalanche approach.
Look at your most recent credit card statement and rank your debt based on interest rate, highest first.
Work towards making bigger and bigger payments on those high-rate cards and, over time, you’ll pay less interest each month.
--
▪️Snowball strategy▪️
This approach takes a bit longer than the avalanche approach because you’re starting small, but it works better for some people.
Using the snowball strategy, rank your debts by the total amount owed, smallest balance first.
And just like in a snowball fight, start knocking down the debt one-by-one.
Pay your smallest debt as quickly as possible so you can cross it off your list. Once that debt is eliminated, move to the next smallest debt.
For both methods, make sure you’re making minimum required payments on all other debts.
--
Pro tip: Use the money that was going to the now paid-off debt to make larger payments on remaining debt.

Debt doesn’t have to keep you down. Whether you choose the avalanche approach or the snowball strategy, working to pay off your debt will set you up for financial peace.

Make sure your expensive items are properly insured. Here’s why:

• Typical homeowners insurance policies cover furniture, clothing and other personal possessions, but only up to a certain dollar amount.

• High-value items like jewelry, artwork, smart phones and computers may need additional coverage.

• Do you have any fi****ms or recreational vehicles (like ATVs, jet-skis, etc.)? Those would need to be listed on your policy as well.

The answer is easy: Talk to your insurance agent and make sure everything is covered properly.

Planning a vacation or is a big trip just around the corner? Before you hit the road, here are six simple tips to help keep your home and belongings secure while you’re gone.
✅ Stash your stuff in a safe - Before you leave, place your valuables in a locked safe or safe deposit box. If those aren’t options for you, make sure valuables aren’t in plain sight or in an obvious place.
✅ Hire a sitter - If you have a pet, you can either hire a pet-sitter or drop Fido off at the local doggie daycare. For pet-free homes, consider hiring a house sitter to help water plants and check in on your home every couple of days.
✅ Stop your mail - A tell-tale sign no one’s home is when a mailbox is overflowing and packages are stacked on the porch. Before you leave town, swing by your local post office or fill out their online form to put a hold on your mail.
✅ Smart home technology - Burglars aren’t the only thing to worry about while you’re away. Installing smart home technology can help you keep an eye on your home from afar. Many companies offer a variety of smart home technology like smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, garage sensors and water leak detection – so if water is detected in your basement or a smoke alarm is going off, your smart phone is alerted immediately.
✅ Keep your landscaping tidy - If you’re going on an extended trip, hire a landscaping company to cut your grass or shovel your driveway. Anything you can do to keep your property looking fresh can deter thieves from breaking in.
✅ Be careful on social media - This is nothing new, but something that’s definitely still happening. If you post you’re on vacation, online predators know your house is empty and waiting for them.

Adam knows the value of having a plan and peace of mind if the worst happens. That’s what life insurance can do — help you prepare for the unknown, so you can live the life you love. Here’s more about life insurance.
What is life insurance?
Life insurance provides your family with money to pay debt, funeral expenses, etc. if you die. You pay your insurance company a premium. In return, your beneficiaries (the people you select) get the death benefit.

Types of life insurance
Term life insurance: Coverage for a specific amount of time. If you die during that time, your beneficiaries get the death benefit.
Permanent life insurance: Lifetime coverage that builds cash value.

How does life insurance work?
For a term policy, select a policy term and the amount of money you’d like your beneficiaries to get if you die during that time.
For a permanent policy, if you make the required payments and don’t let the policy lapse, you get lifetime coverage. Plus, you can access the policy’s cash value while you’re alive.

Why do I need life insurance?
Here are the top five reasons people get life insurance*:
• Funeral expenses
• Wealth transfer
• Income replacement
• Mortgage pay off
• Retirement income supplement

Winter weather can take a toll on your house. Get ahead of winter by remembering these winter home maintenance tips.

1. Disconnect garden hoses
Water left inside the hose could freeze and cause the lining to crack. Also, if the main nozzle on your hose freezes, ice could cause damage to the pipes connected to your house.

2. Keep heat on to prevent pipes from freezing
If you plan on being away from your home for a long period of time, do not turn off your heating system. Set your thermostat to ≥65° F to help prevent pipes from freezing.

3. Shut off your water main if you’re going away
You likely have two shut off handles: one before and one after the water meter. We suggest shutting off the one before the meter.

4. Prevent ice dams
Remove leaves and other debris from your gutters before winter to help prevent ice from forming inside the gutters, known as “ice damming.” Ice dams can cause water damage to your home.

5. Take care of your furnace
Change your furnace filter every three months. Be sure to call your HVAC service provider for your fall service check-up before winter hits.

Don’t let winter sneak up on you before you have a plan to help prevent damage to your home. But if a loss occurs, I will be here to help. Call me to make sure your insurance coverage is ready for winter.
