For years, Andrew Labas floated between broker-dealer relationships that didn't fit what he wanted for his clients.

Then he found a different way to do business.

"It was a godsend. It allowed us to finally fully break away from the broker dealer channel."

Moving his legacy annuity book to Halo meant Andrew's firm could finally operate on a true fee basis, with access to a broader marketplace of protective investment solutions rather than what's available through one channel.

The result speaks for itself: "The best kind of new client is a warm client that comes as a referral. If I'm willing to refer somebody, then you know something's going right."

🏒 Concentrated stock position holding your clients, and your planning conversations, hostage?

Founder shares. Executive equity comp. Inherited legacy stock. However it happens, when too much wealth sits in one name, it doesn't just add risk, it can quietly limit liquidity, diversification, estate planning, and every other decision in the plan.

The usual advice is "sell and diversify." But that's not always the answer clients are ready to hear.

Our latest piece breaks down how hedging and monetization (H&M) strategies may give advisors a third path, one that can:

πŸ“‰ Help define downside exposure without an outright sale
πŸ’° Unlock liquidity tied to the position for reinvestment, taxes, or other goals
🀝 Preserve a defined level of ownership clients aren't ready to give up
🏦 Be implemented in eligible cases without moving assets to a private bank

We also cover the 5 client situations where H&M conversations tend to surface, the trade-offs advisors should weigh before recommending it, and a practical checklist to prep before any strategy review.

If concentrated equity keeps showing up in your client conversations, this is worth the read. πŸ‘‡

Why are more advisors turning to protective investing right now? Alex Rabinovich breaks it down. πŸŽ₯

In a new interview with RIA Channel from the Pershing Insite conference, Alex Rabinovich, Head of Global Sales at Halo, unpacks what's fueling the shift toward protective strategies, and how our Aura portfolio simulation tool is helping advisors act on it.

A few highlights from the conversation:

πŸ“ˆ Volatile markets at market highs are pushing advisors and clients to look for ways to hedge exposure, even while staying invested.

🧩 The 60/40 portfolio is evolving. Advisors are seeking new vehicles to personalize outcomes for clients beyond the traditional model.

⚑ Competitive pressure is accelerating innovation. Advisors who can clearly show impact are winning more client conversations.

πŸ” Aura makes the "why" visible. Alex explains how the tool lets advisors compare portfolios before and after adding structured notes, showing the potential to reduce risk, enhance returns, and lower the odds of negative outcomes.

πŸ“Š July delivered one of the wildest "flat" months markets have seen in years.

On the surface? The S&P 500 barely moved, down just 0.13%. Nothing to see here, right?
Look closer, and it was a different story entirely. πŸ‘‡

πŸ”» The AI trade cracked. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index posted its worst month since October 2008, down 20.6%. The Nasdaq 100 had its weakest July since 2004.

πŸ‡°πŸ‡· South Korea's retail investors got caught in a classic bubble. Households piled into just two memory chipmakers, trading like amateur hedge funds, until an estimated 3.4% of the adult population received a margin call in a matter of weeks.

πŸ’₯ A high-profile AI hedge fund collapsed. Situational Awareness, founded by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, made an aggressive leveraged bet on AI infrastructure. When momentum reversed, Citadel Securities reportedly stepped in and bought the portfolio at a steep discount.

πŸ“ˆ Meanwhile, bond yields quietly did the real work. The 30-year Treasury yield hit its highest level since the Great Financial Crisis. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's July press conference left markets short on answers, and the bond market filled in the blanks itself.

🧭 The takeaway for investors: the VIX, Wall Street's go-to "fear gauge,” never even cracked 21 during all of this. If you're only watching headline volatility measures, you're missing where the real risk is building.

Diversification isn't just a buzzword right now, it's the difference between getting caught in a thematic unwind and riding it out.

We break down the full story: the charts, the numbers, and what it means heading into fall in our latest Markets Journal. πŸ”— https://bit.ly/4qwz3os

The latest in our Structured Notes 101 series: Catapult Notes πŸš€

Most Notes follow a single payoff path, but a Catapult Note has two. Once you see how the split works, though, it's a pretty straightforward story.

One note, two paths: a defined, shorter-term outcome vs. a longer hold with more upside potential and more downside exposure.

In our latest Journal article, β€œUnderstanding Catapult Notes,” we break down how the first observation date shapes both paths, potential outcomes, plus the questions advisors should ask before purchasing a Catapult Note.

A Structured Note's value isn't just in its design, it's how it's implemented within the portfolio.

Our latest article on the Halo Journal explores two practical implementation strategies for Structured Notes:

βœ… Layered allocations or
βœ… Replacement allocations

Rather than starting with product mechanics, advisors can begin with portfolio role, source of capital, and client suitability. This can help lead to more intentional portfolio construction and clearer client conversations.

Read the full article to learn:
β€’ How layered vs. replacement allocations influence portfolio construction
β€’ When each implementation strategy makes the most sense
β€’ How to communicate portfolio trade-offs with clients
β€’ Why implementation is just as important as product selection
