Who taught you your financial plan?

Think about that for a moment.

Go to school.
Get a good job.
Work hard.
Save money in the bank.
Work until your 60s.
Retire.

For most of us, there was never a moment when we examined that blueprint and consciously decided:

This is the financial plan I choose for my life.

We simply inherited it.

From parents. From teachers. From employers. From generations of conventional wisdom repeating the same basic formula.

That doesn’t mean everything you were taught was wrong.

But it does raise a question worth asking:

If this is the plan almost everyone follows, why do so many people reach their 50s and 60s still financially dependent on a paycheck—and worried whether they’ll have enough to retire?

Maybe the problem isn’t that people aren’t following the plan well enough.

Maybe we need to start questioning the plan.
