An analysis by KFF Health News of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) data found that reports of medication errors involving these GLP-1 semaglutide drugs jumped from approximately 2,000 in 2020 to over 25,000 in 2025 — an increase of over 1,100%.

According to one obesity doctor and researcher at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine, the confluence of telemedicine, increased demand for GLP-1s and the availability of one-stop-shopping from companies that both prescribe and sell the drugs has created a “perfect storm” for insufficient regulation and dangerous outcomes.
