If you've been trading for any amount of time, you're probably already aware of the concept of volatility and the impact it can have on the broader market. However, a concept that traders of all levels often miss is volatility supply.

Volatility has a supply and demand curve, just like any other product, and it can be created or destroyed through a number of different means.

Here's Cem Karsan giving a great explanation of vol supply in response to a (very eloquent) YouTube comment asking about it!

Three things to watch this Wednesday from Chris Vecchio:

1️⃣ Dell raises the AI infrastructure bar
Record revenue, surging AI server demand and a growing backlog show that AI spending is broadening well beyond chips. Now, all eyes turn to Broadcom earnings after the bell.

2️⃣ Oil complicates the Fed’s next move
With Brent near $95 and geopolitical tensions adding fresh inflation pressure, the Fed is facing an increasingly difficult mix of cooling labor demand and higher energy costs.

3️⃣ The long end is becoming its own macro story
Treasury yields remain elevated, global bond markets are under pressure, and massive AI infrastructure spending is putting even more focus on credit markets and fiscal supply.

The bottom line today: oil, the long end of the curve, and earnings.

When you're trading options, it can be easy to become attached to specific volatility level as a definitive threshold for when it's time to buy or sell premium.

In reality, volatility is much more nuanced, and there is a time and place for selling premium even when vol is compressed.

Kevin Davitt was kind enough to join us from his post at this morning, and he detailed exactly how this phenomenon can play out, even illustrating that selling 16 delta options would have been profitable in this market.

Do you have specific volatility thresholds for when it's time to buy and sell? Did Kevin change your mind at all here? Let us know in the replies!

The Lipstick Effect is a well documented phenomenon in the stock market that describes capital rotation from expensive luxury goods to affordable luxury goods in times of monetary downturn.

Lipstick is one such affordable luxury good, which is why the phenomenon is named after it, but there are many other goods in the same boat, such as lingerie, fast food, or grocery store steaks.

and got onto this topic this morning due to the broad monetary uncertainty in the country right now, and after a very unprofessional discussion, did eventually get to a very professional thesis about McDonald's

In any market environment, it's important to be mindful of risk, and in this current market environment, that importance is only amplified.

To understand risk, you have to understand the full range of what's possible in the market, and gamma is a great way to make that assessment.

And who could be better to tell us about gamma than the founder of SpotGamma himself, Brent Kochuba? Have a listen to his risk assessment process, and let us know your risk assessment process in the comments!

New Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh has expressed a great deal of hawkish sentiment, but is it real? doesn't think so.

Have a listen to Cem's reasoning that this fiscal conservatism is a facade, and let us know if you agree in the comments!

You cannot compare a $50 stock's premium to a $500 stock's premium and learn anything from it.

So Tom Preston controlled for it. Fixed the stock at $100, fixed the strike at $90, and let volatility be the only variable.

What is left is the cleanest case for selling premium. Higher vol, more dollars collected.

Everyone left Jackson Hole convinced Warsh is about to hike. Cem Karsan is calling the opposite right here.

His read is that the hawkish talk was never about policy, it was a defense of the dollar. Bessent said the quiet part out loud yesterday: you do not raise rates into a supply shock.

65% of S&P daily volume is now zero DTE. On the Nasdaq, 82% expires in five days or less.

Brent Kochuba, founder of SpotGamma, says that is why the old relationships stopped working. Warsh signals a hike, which should send stocks lower, and the market barely blinks. Then a new AI model out of China knocks 15% off Nvidia.

When everything is short dated, liquidity disappears the moment something unexpected shows up.
