Our Spanish Operations team, Somos GEICO, has officially made history in our industry. In the past 3 years, the team has continually innovated to improve the customer experience. And now, we are proud to announce GEICO as the first major auto insurer offering a self-service Spanish web page!

The work won’t stop there though. We’re excited for what’s to come as we continue striving for excellence while serving our Hispanic community.

When Silvia Salcido came to the United States in 1999, she faced many challenges with learning a new language and new cultural differences. Since then, she has served her Hispanic community by offering guidance with immigration papers, scholarships, tax returns, and early literacy education - things she wished she’d received support for upon her arrival in the U.S.

Silvia is passionate about “education, learning, and professional development”. Now working as a Bilingual Service Trainer, she continuously seeks new ways to channel her passions in both her career and as a member of our Hispanic and Latino/a/x Employee Resource Group, GEICO Familia.

We’re always reimagining what’s possible here at GEICO. In order to break down language barriers our customers were facing, we created Somos GEICO – our Spanish Operations team. With a bilingual team dedicated to supporting our Spanish-speaking customers, we’ve eliminated the need for Spanish translators to better serve our communities.

For Hiring Supervisor Nicolle “Niki” Zamora, it took a little longer than she expected to earn a bachelor’s degree. After dropping out of high school and starting a family at a young age, Niki later found the courage to get her GED at age 26. “I enrolled in college immediately after that and began working towards a bachelor’s degree while raising my five sons. My oldest child was nine years old when I began my journey,” Niki says. “I thought it would take me four years to complete a four-year degree, but I was quite surprised to discover it would take me much longer.”

Zamora continued to pursue her education with the assistance of GEICO’s tuition reimbursement program to pay for classes. In the fall of 2021, Zamora achieved her goal and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Upper Iowa University, becoming the first person in her family to graduate from college.

She credits the support of the GEICO community and her family for her success in achieving this dream.

What doors could a career at GEICO open? For Katie Walsh, it’s been an incredible 15-year journey through our legal department that has transformed her professional and personal life in ways she didn’t think possible. As Katie’s career expanded, she worked as both a trials and motions attorney to find solutions for legal issues alongside of Staff Counsel attorneys from all over New York. Now, she serves as a Supervising Attorney overseeing a team of attorneys and paralegals in our New York Summary Judgement and Appeals Unit.

“I'm so happy to have started and grown my career here at GEICO. I've learned so much, made great friends, met my husband here, and have even started a family. There are always opportunities to learn and grow if you work hard and care about what you do. I can't wait to see what else my future at GEICO holds!”

Eager to start her career after graduating from Albany State University, Monica Coleman-Jackson joined the GEICO team. After working in our Claims department for almost eight years as a Supervisor, she’s now a Senior Business Analyst. “Now that I’m on the Process Assurance team, I have a direct hand in bringing process improvements to Claims. I get to work every day towards making GEICO and our Claims department stronger.”

Beyond her role as a Senior Business Analyst, Monica finds ways to stay involved in both GEICO and her own community. Aside from being a serial entrepreneur, traveling the world, and volunteering with her sorority, she is a member of our Employee Resource Group GO BOLD, GEICO Organization for Black Outreach and Leadership Development.
