Your 2024 tax return may be affecting your 2026 Medicare premium.

Consider a couple whose 2024 joint modified adjusted gross income was above $342,000 and no more than $410,000. If both spouses have Medicare Part B in 2026, each pays $527.50 per month instead of the $202.90 standard premium.

That’s $324.60 extra per person, per month—or $7,790.40 for the year for two spouses in Part B income-related adjustments alone. A Part D adjustment may add more.

Medicare generally looks back two tax years. If you’ve since retired and your income has fallen, you may be able to ask Social Security to reconsider the adjustment.

Before a large Roth conversion or retirement account withdrawal, ask: What could this do to my Medicare premium two years from now?

If a Medicare notice surprised you, let’s connect it to your retirement income plan.

What important decision are you assuming you can always make tomorrow?

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, we remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the families forever changed, and the extraordinary courage of first responders and ordinary citizens.

For me, this day also carries a deeply personal meaning. I was supposed to be in New York on September 11, 2001, but my trip was canceled. Years earlier, I was also supposed to be at the World Trade Center around the time of the 1993 bombing, but I happened to be out of town.

I do not share these near-misses to compare my experience with those who suffered unimaginable loss. I share them because they left me with a truth I have never forgotten:

Life is precious. Life is uncertain. Tomorrow is never promised.

That lesson applies to the decisions we continue to postpone—including decisions about Social Security, retirement income, taxes, Medicare, investments, and whether our current financial plan is truly serving us.

There is a difference between thoughtfully waiting and simply avoiding a decision. Thoughtful planning has a reason, a process, and a date for action. Procrastination has none of those things.

And procrastination is still a decision.

In this special episode of the Wisdom to Wealth Podcast, I invite you to identify one important decision you have been putting off—and take one meaningful step forward today.
