Two words on an airplane screen got me to pull out my phone.

To take a picture. Not complain.

“Hi, Jeremy.”

That was it.

I recently flew JetBlue and was impressed with all the bells and whistles. But the thing I photographed was my name on the screen.

Yes, I know it’s technology. Nobody spent the night before writing me a welcome message.

Still, it got me.

They already had my name. They used it to make a pretty ordinary moment feel personal.

I love little details like that.

It’s why I enjoy handwritten notes and finding gifts that make someone say, “How did you remember that?”

Apparently, I’m just as easily won over when I’m on the receiving end.

Well played, JetBlue.

What’s the smallest thing a business has done that made you tell someone about it?

Many of the conversations I'm having with clients right now start in the same way – with the news. Clients see market-driven headlines and ask: "How does this affect me and my life?"

In a recent Bloomberg interview, our Managing Partner Penny Pennington discusses how financial planning can help investors look beyond today's market noise and stay focused on their goals.

If the headlines have you wondering how all of this affects your financial strategy, let's talk.

I went to the hardware store yesterday for one thing.

Which usually means I leave with six things and forget the one I came for.

Walking down an aisle, I passed an employee and smiled.

“Hey, how’s it going?”

He smiled back. We talked for a minute, then I went back to pretending I knew which part I needed.

Nothing remarkable happened. But I’ve been thinking about how easy it is to walk past people without even looking at them.

I’ve done it too. In a hurry. Looking at my phone. Thinking about everything I need to get done.

You have no idea what kind of day the person beside you is having.

Sometimes a smile and a hello are enough to make them feel a little less invisible.

And when someone does that for me, I usually find myself doing it for somebody else.

So if you walk by me, you’ll probably get a smile.

If you’re behind me, I’ll probably hold the door.

Possibly from too far away, forcing you into that awkward little jog.

I’m working on the timing.

What’s something small a stranger did for you that you still remember?

Four kids apparently wasn't enough chaos.

So we got a puppy.

I really didn't see another dog in our future.

But apparently our household makes decisions based on how cute something is, not how much free time we have.

We are weak.

And I have to admit, the new pup is pretty cute.

But the best part isn't the dog. It's the kids.

They're about as happy as I've ever seen them.

And looking at this picture, it's getting harder to make my case that we didn't need another one.

I'm sure I'll have a stronger argument when something gets chewed.

For now, I think I've lost this one.

When I talk with clients about retirement, the conversation goes beyond numbers pretty quickly. Yes, we plan for income, savings and longevity — but we also talk about what your days will look like, who you’ll spend time with and what will give you a sense of purpose.

If you’re thinking about retirement, let’s make sure you’re prepared for both sides of the equation.

Retirement is more than a financial milestone. It is a psychological transition. Learn how to design the next phase of your life with purpose.

With 2:30 left in the fourth quarter, the win was mine.

Then Brock Purdy hit George Kittle for 60 yard TD.

Just like that, I lost my fantasy matchup.

I sat there thinking, “I have the worst luck.”

But later that night, while everything was quiet, I realized how ridiculous that sounded.

My youngest son had fallen and could have been seriously hurt.

He wasn’t.

Our family came over to celebrate my daughter’s eighth birthday.

She was happy all day.

I got to watch one of my sons swim and thought about how proud I am and my dad would have been.

I got to FaceTime my mom, who is still here and doing well.

Maybe luck isn’t always the last-minute touchdown, the winning score or the thing that gives you an immediate rush.

Sometimes luck is much quieter.

It’s a scary moment that turns out okay.

A little girl smiling on her birthday.

Watching your son do something he loves.

Seeing your mom’s face on the other end of the phone.

I may have lost my fantasy game that day.

But I was reminded just how lucky I really am.

What happened recently that reminded you how lucky you are?

Retirement planning isn't just about saving. It's about knowing what you're saving for. If you're within 5–10 years of retirement, these five questions are worth considering:

- When do you want to retire?
- How do you want to spend your days?
- Where do you want to live?
- What will your lifestyle cost?
- Does your plan include giving back?

Your answers are just the starting point. The next step is aligning them with a financial strategy built around the life you actually want. Ready to get started? Let’s talk.
