One of the greatest misconceptions about being a financial advisor is that it's only about money.
The truth is, it's about the people for me.
Today, my heart is broken.
A man who started as a client and became family passed away after 92 incredible years of life. He has gone home to be with our Heavenly Father and reunite with loved ones he dearly missed.
Over the years, our relationship became so much more than financial planning. We shared breakfasts, stories, laughter, family updates, and plenty of good-natured banter. We talked about life in the Navy, starting his first business, his wife and daughter, his friends, The Breakfast Club, and all the things that mattered most to him.
Today, I'm realizing there won't be another breakfast on the calendar. There won't be another phone call filled with laughter or another chance to hear one of his stories. And that reality leaves a hole in my heart.
But while I'm grieving today, I'm also choosing gratitude.
I'm grateful for every conversation, every lesson, every laugh, and every memory we shared. I'm grateful for the trust he placed in me and for the privilege of walking alongside him through a chapter of his life.
This profession allows me to help people prepare for the future. What I didn't fully understand when I started is that it also allows me to build relationships that last a lifetime.
Clients aren't just clients. They become friends. They become family. And when they're gone, they leave a mark on your heart that never fades.
Today, I'm mourning a friend while feeling incredibly blessed to have known him.
Rest easy, my friend. You will be deeply missed.
