Important Medicare dates:

October 1—Begin reviewing & comparing
Review: Your current costs and benefits may change. Review any notices from your current plan about changes for next year.

Compare: Visit Medicare.gov/plan-compare to find and compare plans that meet your needs. Or visit https://www.planenroll.com/?purl=Alexis-Allen to speak with a local licensed agent.

October 15—Open Enrollment begins
This is the one time of year when everyone with Medicare can make changes to their health and drug coverage for the next year.

December 7—Open Enrollment ends
In most cases, this is the last day you can change your Medicare coverage for next year. A health or drug plan must get the enrollment by December 7.

January 1—Coverage begins
If you switch to a new health or drug plan, your new coverage starts
January 1. If you keep your current coverage, any changes to benefits or costs for the new year will begin on January 1.

Changing coverage after January 1
Between January 1 – March 31, if you’re in a Medicare Advantage Plan, you can drop your plan and switch to another Medicare Advantage Plan with or without drug coverage, or to Original Medicare. If you switch to Original Medicare, you’ll also have the option to join a Medicare drug plan. Your coverage will begin the first day of the month after the plan gets your enrollment form.

It’s enrollment time for Medicare!! Heres a few terms that will help you better understand your coverages.

Pay attention to your premiums. This is the amount you pay whether you’re going to the doctors or not.

Copay is a set dollar amount you pay when you go to the doctor. This is usually for routine or commonly used services like primary care, specialist visits, urgent care and lab work.

Co-insurance is a percentage of your total bill. We call this cost sharing because the insurance pays thier share and you pay yours. The cost share usually applies to more serious health care such as surgery, diagnostic testing and life saving procedures.

Maximum out of pocket costs are exactly what they sound like. This is the maximum dollar amount you COULD pay within a plan year. So pay extra close attention to this especially if you have a family or choose a PPO plan.

HMO stands for Health Maintenance Organization. This means your coverage only applies to doctors who are contracted with your insurance company. If they aren’t contracted they won’t pay!!

PPO stands for Preferred Provider Organization. Which means you can see a contracted or non contracted doctor. Bear in mind that non contracted doctors can still refuse to bill your insurance. If you do receive care with a non contracted provider you will likely have higher out of pocket costs.

I hope this helps you and feel free to share
