We’ve loved asking our team one question lately: “Why insurance?” because everyone’s path here has a story behind it.

For Becca Riggs, her insurance career started back in 2013 after her parents gave her the classic “it’s time for a real adult job” talk 😂

At the time, she was balancing three part-time jobs when she walked into Savage & McPherson — our owner Landon’s dad Milton’s agency — resume in hand. She was hired the very next day as the receptionist.

Over time, Becca worked alongside Landon, Amber, Jackie, and Danny at Specialized before eventually joining the team again when COVA was created. Somewhere along the way, Landon pushed her to get licensed — and that encouragement ended up opening the door to a career she truly loves.

A great leader sees potential in people and helps them grow into it, and we’re grateful Becca had someone who did exactly that.

We’re pretty glad she stuck around. 💼🌊

Some of our team at COVA had the opportunity to play in The Noblemen golf tournament recently, and it was an easy “yes” for us to be part of something so meaningful. ⛳💙

The Noblemen is an incredible philanthropic organization right here in Hampton Roads whose mission is to identify and perform “noble deeds” for local children in need. From their adaptive bike program to supporting local families during difficult times, the impact they make throughout our community is truly special.

Being able to support organizations that care so deeply about local families and children is something that means a lot to our team, and we’re grateful to have been a small part of it.

We still remember working with them during the construction phase of this location, so getting to sit at the bar now and see the space full of life feels pretty special.

“What brought you into insurance?” It’s rarely just about policies and paperwork. More often, it’s about people, purpose, and creating a better future for families and businesses in our community.

Being people-first isn’t just something we say, it’s who we are. And Cara Lee Rice's story is a perfect example of that.

After maternity leave with her second son, Cara was looking for a meaningful career path and a fresh start.
