Medicare Beneficiaries May Soon Have Access to GLP-1 Medications for Just $50 Per Month

A significant change is coming for Medicare beneficiaries who have struggled with the high cost of weight-loss medications.

Beginning July 1, 2026, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) will launch the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge, a demonstration program that will allow eligible Medicare beneficiaries to access certain GLP-1 medications for a flat $50 monthly copay.

GLP-1 medications, such as Wegovy and Zepbound, have gained national attention for helping individuals lose weight and improve their overall health. However, these medications have often been out of reach for many Medicare beneficiaries due to costs that can exceed $1,000 per month.

Who May Qualify?

To be eligible for the Medicare GLP-1 Bridge program, beneficiaries must:

Be enrolled in a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan.
Meet specific clinical criteria established by CMS.
Obtain a prescription and prior authorization from their healthcare provider.

In general, the program is designed for beneficiaries seeking treatment for obesity or weight management. Those already receiving GLP-1 medications for conditions currently covered by Medicare, such as Type 2 diabetes, certain cardiovascular conditions, sleep apnea, or MASH, will continue receiving coverage through their existing Part D benefits rather than through this demonstration program.

Why This Matters

Obesity is linked to numerous health conditions, including heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and reduced mobility. By making these medications more affordable, CMS hopes to improve access to evidence-based treatments that can help beneficiaries achieve better long-term health outcomes.

For many seniors, this could be a life-changing opportunity. Instead of choosing between their budget and their health goals, eligible beneficiaries may soon have access to treatment at a predictable and affordable monthly cost.

What Should Medicare Beneficiaries Do Now?

If you think you may benefit from a GLP-1 medication, now is a good time to:

Speak with your physician about whether a GLP-1 medication is appropriate for you.
Review your Medicare Part D coverage.
Stay informed as CMS releases additional details about enrollment and prior authorization requirements before the July 1 launch.

💙 Cancer Costs & Coverage – Are You Financially Prepared? 💙

No one wants to think about cancer, but the reality is 4 out of 10 people will be diagnosed in their lifetime. While treatment can be life-saving, the costs can be overwhelming—even with health insurance.

đź’° Did you know? Cancer patients without extra coverage can spend up to 23% of their household income on out-of-pocket costs in the first year!

Health insurance may cover some medical expenses, but many unexpected costs—like travel for treatment, second opinions, home care, and lost income—are not fully covered.

đź’ˇ A supplemental cancer policy can help by providing a lump-sum cash benefit, giving you the flexibility to:
✔️ Cover out-of-pocket medical costs 🏥
✔️ Pay for alternative treatments 🌿
✔️ Take time off work or hire extra help at home 🏡
✔️ Support family members assisting with care ❤️

Whether you're young and planning ahead or older and reviewing Medicare options, having the right coverage can provide financial peace of mind.

Many of my Medicare clients have been asking about long-term care lately—what it costs, how it’s covered, and how to protect their savings if care is ever needed.

Here’s the reality: Medicare generally does not cover long-term care like extended nursing home stays, assisted living, or long-term in-home care. And those costs can add up quickly.

That’s why more people are choosing life insurance with a Long-Term Care rider.

Why this option is so popular:

• If you need long-term care, you can use part of the policy to help pay for it.
• If you never need care, your loved ones still receive the full life insurance benefit.
• It helps protect the retirement savings you worked hard to build.
• Many plans offer predictable premiums and guaranteed benefits.

In other words, it lets you plan for care without feeling like you’re paying for something you may never use.

If you’ve been thinking about long-term care planning, I’m happy to answer questions or show you what this could look like for you. You can contact me at 609-934-4849.
