👁️ Glaucoma is sometimes called the “silent thief of sight.” That's because about half of people who have it don’t even know it, and vision loss is usually permanent. The early stages of glaucoma typically have no symptoms.

The only way to detect glaucoma early is through a painless eye exam. Medicare Part B covers a glaucoma screening once every 12 months if you’re at high risk. This includes those with diabetes or with a family history of glaucoma, as well as those of African American ancestry over 50 and of Hispanic ancestry over 65.

If you’re in a high-risk group, talk to your doctor about scheduling a screening.

It’s National Limerick Day on May 12th, a perfect excuse to have a little fun with words ✍️

Want to write your own limerick? Here’s a quick and easy guide:

A limerick is a 5-line poem with a catchy rhythm and a specific rhyme scheme: AABBA.

• Lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme with each other and are longer
• Lines 3 and 4 rhyme with each other and are shorter
• The rhythm is bouncy and playful (think: da-DUM da-da-DUM da-da-DUM)

A simple structure looks like this:
Line 1: Introduce a person/place
Line 2: Add a detail
Line 3: Build tension or humor
Line 4: Continue the twist
Line 5: Deliver a funny or clever ending

Example:
There once was a man from Peru,
Who dreamed he was eating his shoe.
He woke with a fright

On Medicare and worried about expensive prescriptions? 💊

One option that can help is the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan, which allows people with Medicare Part D drug coverage to spread their out-of-pocket prescription costs into interest-free monthly payments instead of paying the full amount at the pharmacy. Unfortunately, this option is unknown to many Medicare beneficiaries.

It can be especially helpful in two common situations:

• At the beginning of the year, when Medicare drug plan deductibles reset and patients may face large upfront costs.
• After a new diagnosis, when someone suddenly needs high-cost medications and may not have planned for the expense.

Instead of paying hundreds or even thousands of dollars all at once, the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan allows those costs to be spread across the remaining months of the year. While it doesn’t reduce the total cost of medications, it can make those costs much easier to financially manage.

If you or a loved one are enrolled in Medicare Part D and expect high prescription drug costs, it may be worth asking your plan about the Medicare Prescription Payment Plan.

There’s been a lot of buzz lately about Medicare potentially covering CBD—and for good reason. A new federal pilot program is in the works that could allow certain CBD products to be covered for eligible Medicare beneficiaries.

Here’s what you need to know right now:

This program would allow Medicare to cover specific CBD products if they’re recommended by your doctor. It would start as a limited pilot program.

The latest update? The program has moved closer to reality. Key rules have reportedly been finalized, and there’s a target launch as early as April 2026. However, it’s important to understand that this is not available yet, and many details—like where it will be offered and who qualifies—are still being worked out.

Also, this would only apply to CBD—not ma*****na products containing THC.

While this could open the door to new treatment options in the future, it’s still in the early stages. If you’re on Medicare (or approaching eligibility), it’s important to stay informed so you understand what benefits may be available to you.
