People think they're doing really a great thing because they're putting every extra dollar toward paying off the mortgage early.

However, they wake up in their late 40s and have no money in their brokerage account (no liquidity).

Every dollar's locked up in their 401k and the mortgage's 13th and 14th payment of the year.

FFWD, age 62, you own the house outright but it doesn't actually do anything for you, because:

1 – You're most likely not going to sell it

2 – Now you can allocate those "extra" payments to your brokerage account, but you've blown 20+ years of compounding!

Mistake 1 – Winging it. You're either DIYing or you've got your money with an absent financial advisor. Establish a real financial plan with a qualified professional. You can't afford more time off track.

Mistake 2 – Thinking in Silos. Insurance person, tax person, finance person; No one's coordinating and talking to each other.

Mistake 3 – No sense of urgency. Life's busy, you know it's important, but you'll get to it later.
Later is going to cost you a lot of money and time. I promise.
