Half of the HVAC systems assessed by HVACi in 2025 could be returned to pre-loss condition through repair.

After a long, hot summer, equipment may not be working as well as it had been. But when a system fails, determining the right resolution is not always as simple as approving a replacement.

Cause of loss and scope of damage matter, along with equipment age and condition, repair costs, system compatibility, efficiency ratings, and refrigerant type.

Before settling your next HVAC claim, take a closer look at the factors that can help determine whether to repair or replace: https://bit.ly/4wN6GUo

Heavy rain can raise big HVAC questions. 🌧️

With storms impacting parts of the Gulf Coast, HVAC equipment may be exposed to water, flooding, and other storm conditions.

When water reaches a split system, determining what was affected and what should happen next is not always straightforward.

The Adjuster’s Guide to Split System Water Damage breaks down key considerations for evaluating water-exposed equipment, helping claims professionals approach these losses with confidence.

⚡ When lightning strikes, the damage to an HVAC system may not always be obvious.

Direct lightning can affect more than electrical components, and even significant damage does not always mean the entire system needs to be replaced. 🔍

Explore five HVAC components that may be impacted:

💨 Blower motors
❄️ Refrigerant circuits
🔌 Control boards and electrical components
🏠 Ductwork
🔥 Furnaces and condensing units

A comprehensive expert assessment can help confirm the cause of loss, identify the full scope of damage, and determine the appropriate repair or replacement. ✅

🌡️ Ductless mini-split systems are becoming increasingly common in residential properties, bringing new considerations to HVAC claims.

With multiple indoor units, outdoor equipment, refrigerant lines, and controls, damage to one component does not necessarily mean the entire system is affected.

Understanding how these systems work can help you determine what may need further evaluation.

🛠️✅ Something as simple as regulating heating and air conditioning usage and keeping vents open and clear can help an HVAC system run more efficiently. But what can a policyholder's HVAC contractor do?

A trained professional familiar with HVAC equipment will have the tools and knowledge to identify problems residents might miss. It’s recommended that once a year, a reliable contractor:

• Inspects all wiring for loose connections, including terminals, wire nuts, control boards, and safety devices
• Examines and cleans the motor, blower, housing, and other components
• Tests the thermostat for accurate readings
• Cleans drain lines and evaporator coils
• Checks ductwork for leaks
• Ensures the system is operating according to the manufacturer’s recommendations and guidelines
• Verifies refrigerant levels
• Checks amp draws of all motors
• Checks the capacitance of the capacitors to ensure they are within tolerances
• Inspects the compressor wiring and terminals to ensure they are tight and free of rust and corrosion
• Cleans the condenser coils

After severe weather, it's common for HVAC systems to be included in property claims. But just because a storm occurred doesn't necessarily mean it caused the reported loss.

An objective assessment can help determine:
• Whether the damage is consistent with storm-related failures
• Which components, if any, were affected
• If pre-existing conditions caused the loss
• Whether repair or replacement is most appropriate

HVACi conducts thorough assessments to provide the technical insight adjusters need to make confident claim decisions. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4yEkyTg

When temperatures remain in the upper 90s—or even into the triple digits—HVAC systems may be working harder than usual.
Increased demand can expose issues caused by maintenance history, pre-existing conditions, or recent weather events.

Before making a claim decision, an objective assessment can verify cause of loss. As heat waves continue across much of the country, having the right information can help claims professionals make confident, well-supported decisions.
