Could social districts be in the near future for two growing Charlotte neighborhoods? Last August, Charlotte City Council unanimously voted to allow social districts, which simply permits neighborhood and merchant organizations to request the creation of areas that allow people to bring purchased drinks outdoors in predetermined boundaries. The catalyst behind social districts is House Bill 890, a measure allowing cities and counties to define outdoor spaces where people can legally walk with open, to-go containers of alcoholic beverages in a contiguous area.
One of the first Charlotte-area towns to create a social district was Cornelius.
