Advantages and Disadvantages of Medicare with a Supplement plan
Advantages
1. Large network, go to any doctor anytime that takes Medicare
2. No prior authorizations required, if your doctor says you need something done you get it done ASAP
3. Once you pay your part B deductible for the year, you will have no bills from the doctor for the rest of the year
4. Chemo, Radiation treatments and DME, all are covered at no charge after your part B deductible has been met for year
5. Plans are set in stone and don't change, so no surprises
6. Hospital co-pays are paid for with Medicare and a supplement plan $0 for the stay (Advantage plan ex. $399 a day, days 1 to 7 = $2793)
7. Best healthcare you can get in the US bar none if you are on Medicare with a supplement plan
8. Plan G is plan G from company to company they all pay the same
9. On plan G you could be at an SNF for up to 100 days and the plan would pay for it all (Advantage plans have a $214 copay for days 21 to 100 up to your MOOP)
Disadvantages
1. The plans are not free so you pay a monthly premium, in NC Plan G for a 65 year old female starts around $91 a month, for a 65 year old Male around $104 a month, there are lower priced plans like Plan N, or High Ded G
2. Premiums increase yearly based on age attained, you can switch to other companies if you can pass medical underwriting to lower premiums
3. Vision coverage is limited to cataract surgery, glaucoma, or trauma to the eyes.
4. Hearing aids are not covered, but hearing tests and hearing issues are like implants
5. Routine dental care is not covered
6. You must get a stand alone Part D plan to cover your meds, some plans are as little as $0
