Over 4,000 women. Rent, groceries, gas money, medicine — covered, one grant at a time, one month at a time, so they could focus on staying alive instead of staying afloat.

That's 14 years of the Run Jen Run 5K & Festival, the fundraising engine behind the Go Jen Go Foundation. Jen and I started it in 2007, during her first round of chemo — grants for women fighting breast cancer while also fighting to keep up with the bills.

Voting is open now for The Charlotte Observer's 2026 Charlotte's Best, and we'd be honored to have your support in the Annual Event/Fundraiser category.

Click the link below, select Things to Do → Annual Event/Fundraiser, and vote for Run Jen Run 5K & Festival. You can vote once a day, everyday, through July 24 — every vote helps. And, your vote counts even if you don't live in Charlotte

A vote takes ten seconds. For someone choosing between rent and medicine, that ten seconds is what keeps the grants coming. 🩷 💚 🩵

Two years ago, both of our old sweet dogs passed within two months of each other; Piggy (bulldog) at 13 and Sophie (boxer) at 15. We were left with a dogless home for the first time in my adult life.
I've always had two or more dogs at the same time. Whenever one would pass over that Rainbow Bridge, we would get another puppy to keep the other one happy.
After adopting this sweet girl, Daisy, she blended into the household perfectly in an instant. She’s a Pit mix (per the pound) and has a loving demeanor. To get belly rubs, she’ll do a trust-dive into your lap on the couch instead of just rolling over. She continues to be a super happy girl and seems so content.
But she looks so sad when we all have to leave for the day. She’ll watch me with those pretty blue eyes as I get my keys, knowing I’m going to leave her home alone. And when we are at the off-leash park with so many other dogs, she is so full of zoomy joy.
I wonder, should I get her a companion? A sister dog to keep each other company when the humans are not home? To run laps around the backyard all day and play tug-of-war.
I worry that she might feel like another dog would be an intrusion on her pack. She might not like to share the attention.
Maybe she doesn't need another dog. Maybe we're already her people. I don’t want her to lose her place in the house.

With the Fed's next meeting scheduled for June, attention is turning to updated economic projections and what they may signal about the broader economy. From \$24 billion spent on Father's Day to the popularity of dining out and special outings, this month's by-the-numbers highlights how families celebrate the dads in their lives.
