Our History
Your credit union was chartered on January 3, 1936 as Colgasco Employees Federal Credit Union. In 1974 Colgasco merged with Charleston Group Credit Union and continued to serve the employees of Columbia Gas as well as their family members. The name was changed to Star USA Federal Credit Union in June of 1996 to make the Credit Union more visible to current and potential members. Star
USA remains the only Credit Union chartered to serve all Columbia System employees. The Credit Union is regulated by the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the federal government. Accounts are insured by NCUA to $250,000. Star USA has been headquartered at One Cantley Drive in Charleston, WV since August of 1995. This location has provided a base for growth and has provided for greater member service and convenience. In September 1999, the Credit Union's charter was revised to include those residents who live, work, worship, or attend school in Kanawha and Putnam Counties. In April 2001, the charter was expanded to allow the credit union to offer services to identical groups in Raleigh County. Fayette and Nicholas counties were added to the list of served communities in May 2001. Expansion continued in Spring of 2002 with the addition of Cabell County. A merger with the Huntington VA FCU in 2004 allows residents in Wayne County and Lawerence County (Ohio) to enjoy the services of Star USA. Relatives of members are also eligible to join the credit union. Ask at any of our locations for additional information about membership eligibility. STAR USA Federal Credit Union is a community chartered credit union. This means that membership is open to anyone who lives, works, worships, attends school or volunteers in these West Virginia counties: Kanawha, Raleigh, Fayette, Nicholas, Putnam, Cabell, Wayne and Lawrence County Ohio. Star USA may also serve employees of Highland Hospital, the members of the Almost Heaven Scholarship Fund and members of the WV Society of Professional Engineers.
