Are you willing to do the hard things?

I feel like I ask this question to myself almost every morning.

Look, starting a business and running a business is no walk in the park. Things are constantly shifting and sometimes they are completely out of or control. However, we have decisions that need to be made. If we just wait around and let fate do its thing we are going to get run over. The marketplace is shifting on a daily basis. Costs are increasing at a pace most of us have never seen before. Competition is becoming more and more fierce. Sometimes it feels for every step you make going forward, something makes you take 3 steps back.

What does it mean to scale a business?

Does my business actually need to scale?

These are some of the questions I receive from small business owners. Some are just starting in their business, while others have been in business over 10+ years.

Let’s start here. Scaling a business basically means this, you increase your revenue without substantially increasing your costs of doing business. How do you accomplish this you ask?

Let me make the answer as clear as I can. You might need to change, your sales team might need to change things, processes might need to change, your accounting might need to change. Everything you currently do will need to be reviewed and looked at under a microscope. Somethings will stay the same however, overall most things might need to change.

Is it easy? Not at all.

Is all the changed worth it? You bet it is.

What will the outcome be from all the changes? The answer depends on you and your teams commitment to the challenges and the changes that will need to be made.

It is the same thing as individual outcomes when it comes to diet and exercise. The more effort you put in the more success and positive results you will have.

Why do I feel most businesses don't set clear goals?

Or is it just my perception?

60 days!

That's how many days are left before January 1st 2022.

If you are like most people,you try and start the new year with a resolution or two, just to end up quitting before the end of the month.

Here is the thing. Most people don't start with the big picture. They will start by saying they want to lose 15 pounds. Here is the question you need to ask. Why do you want to lose 15 #? Answers could be, to look great for an anniversary trip or the doctor tells you your blood pressure is high.

Whatever the reason maybe, that is what you have to focus on. Set a large goal or reason for the goal and break it down to smaller daily and weekly goals.

I can't stand accounting.

There, I said it.

Accounting is boring to me and I feel slows me down. I especially felt this way will running my retail business. However, what I learned is accounting is the lifeline of how a business operates. It could show you where money might be being wasted, sales are decreasing or prices of material have increased.

Any way you look at it, accounting should be looked at on the daily. Without doing so, once you start running low on cash, it will add an entire new level of stress to you and your business.
