Affordable housing helps communities thrive.

Access to stable, affordable housing allows families to spend less on housing costs and more in their local communities, support small businesses and drive local economic growth. Affordable housing can also lead to better health outcomes by reducing stress, increasing stability, and helping families maintain safe living environments.

It also strengthens the workforce by allowing workers to live near their jobs, reducing financial strain, and supporting long-term community stability.

When communities invest in affordable housing, they invest in stronger economies, healthier residents, and a more resilient future.

During Older Americans Month, we recognize the importance of safe, stable, and affordable housing for older adults in our communities.

Many older Americans want the opportunity to remain in the homes and communities they know and love, yet rising housing costs continue to create challenges. In fact, 44% of older adults say they expect to relocate, with housing affordability being a major factor, while 73% say they support policies that help people age in place.

Access to affordable housing is about more than shelter — it’s about independence, stability, health, and quality of life at every age.
