The site looks fine. Clean layout, product photos, reviews at the bottom, a checkout page that asks for your card like any other.

Storefronts are cheap to build now, which means a convincing one doesn't tell you much. The tells are usually somewhere else — in how the site handles contact information, payment options, and the things a real business has no reason to hide.

A few minutes of checking before you enter a card number is worth more than any amount of trying to fix it afterward.

Nobody in Charleston believes fall is real until it happens. But late August is when the signs start.

🌤️ The afternoon thunderstorms get less reliable. You can almost plan a 5pm again.

🦪 Someone mentions an oyster roast. It's still theoretical. It's still exciting.

🏈 Saturdays start belonging to football, and downtown parking gets a personality.

🌬️ A breeze comes off the harbor that isn't warm, and three people text each other about it.

It's still hot. It'll be hot for a while yet. But it's coming.

What's your first sign that fall is on the way? 👇

Summer has a way of quietly rearranging your spending.

You added a streaming service for one show. You've been eating out more because nobody wanted to turn on the oven in July. There's probably a subscription or two you signed up for in June and haven't thought about since.

Three things worth ten minutes before fall:

Scan last month's statement, line by line. Not to feel bad about it — just to see it. Most people find at least one charge they'd forgotten about.

Cancel what you're not using. Annual renewals have a habit of landing in late summer, when you're least likely to notice.

Look at what's coming. School costs, holiday travel, and end-of-year expenses arrive faster than they seem to from here.

None of this is dramatic. It's just easier to adjust in August than to be surprised in November.

What's the subscription you keep meaning to cancel? 👇

"Your package couldn't be delivered. Confirm your address here."

If you've ordered anything recently, that text is easy to believe. That's the whole point — the scam works because it lands in the middle of something you're actually expecting.

The link goes somewhere that looks like a shipping site. It asks for your address, then a small redelivery fee, then a card number. Now the real problem isn't the fake fee. It's that someone has your card.

A few things worth knowing before the next one shows up on your phone.

Here's a difference that sounds like marketing but isn't.

At a bank, you're a customer. The bank has shareholders, and those shareholders are a separate group of people who expect a return.

At a credit union, there is no separate group. Members are the owners. That's not a slogan — it's the actual corporate structure. When you open an account at Latitude 32, you're buying a share of the institution.

What it means practically: decisions get made with members in mind, because there's nobody else to answer to. You get a vote. The people setting direction are accountable to the folks banking here, not to a stock price.

We've operated that way in Charleston since 1952, and it hasn't gotten old.

August in Charleston is a specific kind of test. The air is thick, the parking is hot, and stepping outside feels like opening a dishwasher.

A few ways to get through the last stretch of it without spending much:

🌳 Angel Oak on Johns Island — genuine shade from a tree that's been doing this for centuries
🌊 Early morning at the beach — Folly and Sullivan's before 9am are a different world than at noon
⛲ Waterfront Park — the breeze off the harbor is the closest thing downtown has to air conditioning
📚 Charleston County Public Library — free, quiet, and gloriously cold

Fall gets here eventually. It always does.

What's your go-to spot when the heat gets ridiculous? 👇

That listing looks perfect. The price is better than anywhere else. The seller just needs you to pay a slightly unusual way, and they need you to do it right now.

Online scams don't usually announce themselves. They show up as a good deal with one small thing that doesn't quite add up — and the pressure to move fast is often the tell.

We put together six warning signs worth knowing before your next online purchase. A couple of minutes now can save a lot of frustration later.

Hurricane season peaks between mid-August and late October. Most Charleston households have a plan for water, batteries, and boarding up. Fewer have one for money.

Four things worth doing before a storm is named:

Keep some cash on hand. If power goes out, card readers and ATMs go with it. Even a small amount covers gas, ice, or a meal on the road.

Photograph your home, inside and out. Ten minutes on your phone now becomes the documentation that makes an insurance claim go smoothly later.

Put your documents somewhere they can travel. Insurance policies, deeds, IDs — scanned and stored in the cloud, or in a waterproof folder you can grab on the way out.

Know how to reach us if you evacuate. Online and mobile banking work from anywhere you have a signal, so your accounts don't stay behind when you do.

Storm prep isn't pessimism. It's the thing that lets you focus on your family instead of your paperwork.

32.7765° N, 79.9311° W.

That's Charleston. It's also where our name comes from.

Latitude 32 Credit Union opened in 1952 and never went anywhere else. Same city, same mission: we're not-for-profit and member-owned, so there are no outside shareholders taking a cut. When we do well, that value goes back to the people who bank here.

Two locations, both easy to get to:
📍 West Ashley — Sam Rittenberg Blvd
📍 Bee Street — in the MUSC/VA hospital corridor

Glad you found us. Follow along for money tips, local happenings, and a look at the people behind the counter.
