We spent 4 hours hanging six picture frames.
Because I thought,
“How hard could it be?”

Not all at once.

We started.
Got frustrated.
Left it unfinished for a week.
Came back to it.

Six frames.
A simple gallery wall.

We measured three times…
and it still didn’t come out the way we wanted.

It looks fine.

But you can tell it’s amateur.

And here’s what hit me.

Pretend you’re a surgeon.

No chance I’m walking into your operating room saying,
“Don’t worry. I watched a few videos. I’ve got this.”

That’s not my lane.

But financially?

Brilliant, capable professionals will spend hours trying to DIY something that impacts decades of their life.

Not because they’re incapable.

But because they think they should.

There’s a difference between being capable…
and being in your lane.

Sometimes protecting your time is more important than proving you can do it.

So I’m curious —

Where are you spending hours on something that isn’t your lane… just because you can?

👇 Drop it in the comments.

Most people watch the wrong scoreboard.

I’ve worked out 40+ times in January and February.

The scale has barely moved.

If I only looked at that number,
I’d think nothing was happening.

But my belt tells a different story.

My pants fit looser.
Energy feels better.
Strength is up.

And that’s when it hit me.

In health — and in money —
progress rarely shouts.

It whispers.

We stare at:
• the scale
• the account balance
• the market return

And when the number doesn’t jump fast enough,
we assume it’s not working.

But the real transformation is happening underneath:
• habits forming
• consistency stacking
• emotional reactions shrinking
• systems getting stronger

The scale is a lagging indicator.

The habit is the leading one.

Most people quit because the scoreboard hasn’t exploded yet.

But compounding is quiet.

If you’ve been putting in the work somewhere — even if the “number” hasn’t impressed you yet — don’t overlook the subtle wins.

What’s one sign of progress in your life that wouldn’t show up on a scoreboard?

Markets feeling unpredictable lately? You’re not alone. Some people may be asking the same questions:

🔵 How do I protect what I’ve built?
🔵 Can I still pursue growth without taking on big risks?
🔵 What if my retirement lasts longer than expected?

That’s where solutions like a fixed indexed annuity can come into the conversation. Products like Indextra®️ are designed to help protect principal, offer growth potential tied in part to market performance, and provide access to optional lifetime income.

If market volatility has you thinking differently about the future, it may be worth learning more. Reach out to your financial representative to explore whether this approach fits your overall strategy.

There’s something powerful about being in a room full of people who care about the same city you do.

This morning at Vision 2026, Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce brought together business owners, entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and community builders around one shared goal:

A more prosperous region.

From supporting startups to addressing transportation, housing, and education, the focus wasn’t just growth.

It was intentional growth.

I was also honored to be recognized for my board service this past year.

The certificate is appreciated.

But what matters more is the reminder that progress happens when people decide to participate.

Charleston doesn’t improve on its own.

It improves when leaders initiate, advocate, and empower.

The professionals I work with often tell me the same thing in different ways:

They want their work to matter.
They want to contribute.
They want to build something that lasts beyond themselves.

That’s the kind of community I’m proud to be part of.

If you’re in Charleston, what do you think is the biggest opportunity for our region over the next few years?

Floating in a pool in Punta Cana…
and my brain was still at my desk.

Morgan’s 30th.
Our babymoon.

And I had to actively practice being present.

Five days.
Only Six work emails sent 👊

Not because anyone expected it.
Because of the invisible weight.

If you’re a provider or high-performing professional, you know the feeling.

Work doesn’t clock out.
It hums in the background.

Burnout doesn’t always look like exhaustion.
Sometimes it looks like never fully unplugging.

This trip reminded me of something simple:

The moments that matter most won’t wait for your inbox to clear.

Be honest —
Do you actually disconnect on vacation?

Most of the meaningful opportunities in my life didn’t start with a contract.

They started with a conversation.

A quick intro.
A “What do you do?”
A random table at an event I almost didn’t go to.

The Harbour Club has given me more than business.

Yes, I’ve met clients there.

But more importantly, I’ve built friendships.

Real ones.

People I grab coffee with.
People I call when I need advice.
People I genuinely want to see win.

That’s why I’m supporting the Harbour Club Business Expo on Monday, February 23rd from 11AM–3PM.

At 1PM, Amy Stasiukaitis, Chief of Staff at Lowcountry Case & Millwork, is giving the keynote, and she’s someone worth hearing from.

It’s complimentary for members and their guests.

If you’d like to come as my guest, send me a message.

You never know what one room can do.

The best lesson I learned about wealth
came from dumplings 🥟🥟

Every Lunar New Year, our extended family gathered in my great aunt’s kitchen.

Hundreds of dumplings.

Grandma rolled the wrappers fast and precise. She was unmatched.
Everyone else filled them with pork and chives and sealed them.

Some looked restaurant quality.
Some looked like they needed a second life.

No two were the same.

Hidden inside a few of them were peanuts.

If you bit into one, you won a dollar.

As a kid, it felt like luck.

Now I see it differently.

The reward only came after the work.
After the preparation.
After everyone contributed.

We did not talk much about money growing up.

But we understood responsibility.
We understood that prosperity is not random.
It is something you prepare for together.

Year of the Horse feels fitting.
Strong. Steady. Forward moving.

Happy Lunar New Year to everyone celebrating 🧧

What are you intentionally preparing for this year?

The most common retirement question I hear isn’t about returns.

It’s about confidence.

People want to know:
Can I do this without worrying every month?
Can I trust the plan when headlines get loud?
Can I simplify this without making a mistake?

Those are reasonable questions.
And they deserve thoughtful answers, not quick opinions.

If you’re at the stage where retirement feels closer than it used to,
I’m always happy to talk through what clarity could look like.

The most dangerous retirement plan is the one that looks impressive on paper.

Perfect charts.
Optimized assumptions.
Sophisticated strategies.

But if it’s too complex to understand,
too fragile to live with,
or too stressful to stick to…

It’s not doing its job.

A good retirement plan isn’t about predicting everything.
It’s about holding up when things don’t go perfectly.

Clear income.
Thoughtful tax planning.
Guardrails you’ll actually follow.

That’s when confidence replaces guesswork.
And decisions stop feeling so heavy.

This doesn’t look like my life.

Which is why it matters.

24 gym visits in January.

That’s not discipline.
That’s not motivation.
That’s definitely not who I’ve “always been.”

Most days were boring.
Same lifts.
Same weights.
Same clock on the wall.

But here’s what surprised me:

The boring days worked anyway.

Numbers went up.
Inches went down.
Energy changed.

Not because anything was extreme,
but because I kept showing up.

And this is the exact same pattern behind long-term financial progress.

The habits that actually move the needle:
• aren’t exciting
• don’t feel urgent
• don’t come with instant feedback

They just work quietly, over time.

Most people don’t avoid them because they’re hard.
They avoid them because they’re dull.

But boring, done consistently, compounds.

If you’ve ever felt capable of more—but stuck waiting to “feel ready”—this isn’t about the gym.

It’s about proving to yourself that showing up beats overthinking.

What’s one area of life where consistency would change everything—but you keep putting it off?

A lot of people didn’t delay saving because they were careless.

They delayed saving because they were paying tuition.

They helped their kids get through school.
They said yes to textbooks, rent, meal plans, and extra semesters.
They put family first and figured they’d “catch up later.”

Now the season has changed.

The tuition payments are gone.
The house is quieter.
And for the first time in a while, there’s room to think about themselves again.

What I see isn’t irresponsibility.
It’s compressed saving years.

People who did what mattered most at the time
and are now asking better questions about what comes next.

This stage isn’t about regret.
It’s about being intentional with the years ahead
and building confidence around income, taxes, and priorities.

If this sounds familiar, you’re not behind.
You’re just in a different phase than the one most advice is built for.
