Just uploaded a new video to my YouTube channel! Come along as I kick off the kitchen renovation with some demolition to make way for a new, bigger 36-inch window!
In this video, you'll see me removing the upper and lower cabinets and the peninsula to get down to the bones of the wall where the old 30-inch window was [1, previous turn]. Turns out, the existing window framing has some issues – the jack studs are undersized and not up to code (they should be 2x4s!) and the header needs to be expanded to fit the wider window [1, previous turn].
I explain what jack studs and the header do in supporting the window opening, and you'll get a glimpse into the steps I'll be taking to create a proper, code-compliant rough opening for the new window. This includes dealing with an old vent and some electrical work too!
