⚓ Anchors aweigh! Next month, our team sets sail for the Ocean State and the 2026 Loss Executives Association (LEA) Spring Educational Conference.

We're looking forward to reconnecting with our colleagues and raising a pint to the 95th spring meeting - it's a monumental achievement.

As part of our parent company Ampcus Inc, our team is often involved in leading edge AI discussions, and this year's agenda did not disappoint:

✅ The AI Ecosystem to Algorithms: How Fully Autonomous Warehouses
Operation is Redefining Property Claims Adjusting
✅ Privilege, Privacy and Peril: A Claims Professional’s Guide to Generative AI
✅ From Chaos to Controlled Response: Real Time Cost Controls for Large Loss
Mitigation

Ampcus Forensics Chief Forensics Officer Danielle Gardiner, CPA, CFF had this to say:

“LEA educational meetings are some of the best places to truly get a pulse for where the insurance industry is at. We're looking forward to the insights from this year’s speakers and the chance to build stronger relationships and share our knowledge to ensure we're driving our industry forward responsibly."

Drop a line if you'll be in Newport next month! 🙌

And that's a wrap on the 2026 Property Insurance Claims Group Conference and Claims Academy! 🌀🧑‍🎓

This year's conference theme explored some of the major global catastrophes from the last 20+ years, including September 11, Hurricane Katrina, the wildfires and floods across Canada and Australia, and the 2011 Japanese tsunami.

By examining these experiences as lessons, attendees learned to improve future catastrophe response.

"Some people forget that Hurricane Katrina came through Florida as a Cat 1 storm," said Ampcus Forensics Vice President Grant Mizel. "It was the first major storm that I remember living through as a kid in Miami, and it was scary. Now years later, I can see how impactful that experience must have been for Forensic Accountants just cutting their teeth, working on the losses associated with that storm.

"And while it's not always productive to dwell on the past, hearing those types of stories this week, there are real nuggets of wisdom and insight that we must take with us to be better at serving our clients. It could be small, basic things we might overlook in the moment like open communication or bigger, task-oriented things like leveraging the latest technology - all of it is important to maintaining a collaborative mindset with our clients and partners whenever possible."

Many thanks to Stuart Wright, Rich Woodhams, Steven Hale, and the entire PICG team for all your hard work. It makes this event special and keeps us all coming back. Safe travels, friends! ✈️

This week, Ampcus Forensics Vice President Grant Mizel will be in London for the PICG Conference!

The PICG Conference addresses salient issues relevant to the Property sector, both in London and on an international basis, and provides an educational and networking opportunity for claims practitioners within the Property sector.

An alumni of the PICG Claims Academy, Grant's experience in London has shaped his personal approach to Forensic Accounting, specifically the way the Academy embraces collaboration:

"I was fortunate to begin my career in Miami, one of a few global insurance hubs. I benefited from attending networking events and meetings with clients and colleagues regularly in between learning how the market worked and how claims were handled.

This face-to-face time with the people I worked with was a commodity that I took for granted - but I didn't realize it until I moved away to the DMV. Building my career for the last 7 years outside of Miami has been rewarding in different ways, but I have certainly missed the connectivity with the industry.

The PICG Academy not only taught me valuable lessons about being a global insurance professional, but brought me invaluable connections to new clients and colleagues in the industry across the pond.

The emphasis on relationship building and camaraderie is somewhat unique to the big-but-small London insurance market, and its something that you can't feel or understand effectively without being there."

A lot can happen in a week. Anyone remember this bit of fraudulent news?

Sgt. Gannon Ken Van D**e, a US Army special forces soldier, used classified information to hit a major payday on Polymarket, a prediction marketplace.

His $400,000 haul netted enough cash for a beachfront retirement home. Or, depending on how far ahead he was thinking, a Rolls Royce Cullinan Black Badge.

He likely wasn’t thinking ahead.

Maybe that’s the problem with fidelity crimes. Unlike the news cycle, fraud and fidelity have long-term memories in the form of downstream implications.

Investigations. Quantifications. Claims processing. Plea bargains. Jail time.

The prefrontal cortex often gets in the way of a fully-formed thought, and fraud is one of those fleeting ideas that can quickly turn into a combustible problem when pressure is applied.

Polymarket has since tightened their rules: "When we identified a user trading on classified government information, we referred the matter to the DOJ & cooperated with their investigation. Insider trading has no place on Polymarket.”

Axios went further on their fraud reporting, highlighting "mysterious trading patterns" since the start of the Iran War, while noting "the machinery to catch insider trading has been systematically dismantled" long before it began:

1️⃣ The Justice Department's Public Integrity Section — created after Watergate to prosecute corrupt officials — was reduced from 36 lawyers to two in 2025.

2️⃣ In 2025, the administration canceled 159 federal enforcement actions against 166 companies — more than 30 of which were donors.

3️⃣ Reuters reported that the SEC's top enforcement official resigned after agency leaders blocked her from pursuing cases against the administration.

In order to better catch fraudsters, these types of controls are essential. Making fraud easier invites more individuals to accept outside pressures and take unnecessary risks.

What's the best way to combat fraud? Prepare for it:

⚡ The 'Michael Scott' handshake. The Red Wedding Alliance. The Trojan Horse.

Blind trust is a fantastic way to end up in serious trouble.

Yet third-party dependency is essential for growth.

In our work advising organizations on risk governance and forensic analysis, one issue we're seeing across industries - including the legal sector - is that third party dependency is expanding faster than the governance structures designed to manage it.

Across the legal industry specifically, the vendor ecosystem includes:

✅ eDiscovery platforms and litigation support providers
✅ Document management and cloud storage systems
✅ Cybersecurity and managed IT service providers
✅ Legal research databases
✅ Contract lifecycle management platforms
✅ AI-enabled legal research and drafting tools
✅ Data hosting and digital evidence repositories

These technologies are now deeply embedded, enabling firms to manage complex litigation, process large volumes of data, and collaborate across jurisdictions.

In our latest Risk Watch, we unpack why AI and Vendor Governance is a strategic leadership issue - and what you can do about it:

Last week, Ampcus Forensics was on hand for the Honorable Order of the Blue Goose International's annual "Meet the Commissioner" luncheon.

Hosted by the Capitol Pond, the guest of honor was none other than Maryland Insurance Commissioner Marie Grant. An alumni of Georgetown University Law Center and The Johns Hopkins University, Marie is a state and federal policy expert across both the public and private sector, specializing in insurance and health care payments.

It was a great opportunity to connect with fellow Ganders and hear more about property insurance legislation, as well as consumer protection, in Maryland. We're looking forward to seeing some of you again this weekend for the PLRB - Property & Liability Resource Bureau happy hour!

🌱 ♻️ Every small step towards recycling makes a big difference!

On Global Recycling Day, let’s take a moment to reflect on how simple actions like reducing waste, reusing materials, and recycling can create a lasting impact on our environment.

When we recycle, we conserve natural resources, reduce pollution, and help build a more sustainable future.

At Ampcus Forensics, we believe that responsible choices today lead to a healthier planet tomorrow.

Together, let’s turn small recycling actions into meaningful environmental change.
