Mistletoe can blossom during the coldest seasons. For centuries the imperishable plant was associated with fertility and vitality, a belief that dates back to an old Celtic legend. Native to Great Britain and other parts of Europe, mistletoe is thought to bring good luck.
Kissing under the mistletoe originated in England. Mistletoe was used to decorate the Kissing Bough, a decoration made of wooden hoops or spheres and greenery. The Kissing Boughs hung in halls or entries during the winter months where the homeowner and visitors would embrace and kiss as a symbolic gesture of goodwill and peace. Over time, mistletoe became associated with kissing, and another well-known lip-locking tradition where couples exchanged kisses beneath a sprig of mistletoe was born.
Will, you be waiting for a smooch beneath the mistletoe this year ?????
