Real Life, Real Loan

A young married couple came to me two years ago with a dream of homeownership. They both worked at a grocery store, had a young child, and no savings for a down payment—but they were ready to put in the work.

We focused on building credit the right way and saving what they realistically could for upfront costs like earnest money, inspections, and the appraisal. They stayed disciplined, followed the plan, and saved for nearly another year.

Their price range was well below the area median, but they eventually found an older single-wide manufactured home with a yard for their daughter to play. Because it didn’t fit traditional financing, I found a lender willing to do a portfolio loan. The final hurdle was a 5% down payment, which a generous parent helped gift.

They moved into their home in March 2025—and recently told me they’ve never been happier.

Real Life, Real Loan

This week’s story is about love, intention, and making a dream come true while there was still time.

An elderly husband and wife had always dreamed of owning a small vacation home on the water near Port Townsend—a place where their entire family could gather, slow down, and make memories together. When her husband was diagnosed with dementia, that dream took on new meaning. She wanted to see it come to life while he could still fully experience it—before the disease progressed enough to take those moments away.

They found a charming little cabin right along the water, complete with a large deck where the family could gather for meals, laughter, celebrations, and long evenings watching the light change on the water. They visited often, soaking in every moment.

Eventually, the disease took her husband.

Today, that home remains a place of refuge and healing. Family still gathers there. Stories are shared. Memories are honored. And the legacy they created together will continue to be passed down to the next generation.
