WHY DIDN'T MORTGAGE RATES DROP A HALF POINT TODAY ALONG WITH THE FED RATE? Quick answer: Mortgage rates are more impacted by general economic movements/reports and not tied directly on a 1:1 correlation to the FED funds rate. The assumption of the cuts was ALREADY ACCOUNTED FOR in mortgage rates after the July 31st meeting where they indicated they would cut rates... thus they did not improve today.
