🚨UPDATE: All streets have been reopened.

🚔🌪️ SEVERE WEATHER ALERT

The St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office has received reports of a small tornado that has passed through portions of Arabi.

At this time, no injuries have been reported.

Residents in the area are encouraged to use caution and watch for downed power lines, fallen trees, debris in roadways, traffic lights that may be out, and other storm-related hazards. If you encounter downed power lines, stay away and report them immediately to Entergy.

⚠️Due to storm-related hazards, Rowley Boulevard and Norton Avenue have been closed to traffic between Judge Perez Drive and St. Bernard Highway, including all cross streets in that area.

Motorists are reminded that intersections with non-functioning traffic signals should be treated as four-way stops.

Deputies are assessing conditions and will continue to monitor the affected area. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.

🚨🚔🌀⚠️
TROPICAL STORM ARTHUR WEATHER ALERT

As weather conditions worsen due to Tropical Storm Arthur, Sheriff James Pohlmann urges residents to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary.

Heavy rain can reduce visibility and create dangerous driving conditions, especially in low-lying areas.

Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways.

Be safe. Be smart. Be weather aware. Your safety is our top priority.

SBSO REMINDS RESIDENTS OF LAWS PROHIBITING 4-WHEELERS, DIRT BIKES AND GOLF CARTS

As summer gets underway and more residents spend time outdoors, the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public that certain vehicles - including 4-wheelers, dirt bikes and unregistered golf carts - are not permitted to be operated on public roadways in violation of state law and parish ordinances.

Each summer, the Sheriff’s Office receives an increase in complaints involving reckless or illegal operation of these vehicles on neighborhood streets, highways and along the Mississippi River levee system. Several incidents in recent years have resulted in serious injuries.

Golf carts may only be operated legally on certain roadways when they meet all state requirements. Operators must have a valid driver’s license, and the golf cart must be properly registered, insured and equipped with required safety features, including headlights, turn signals, seat belts and mirrors.

Common violations include riding against traffic, carrying multiple passengers, operating after dark without proper equipment, ignoring traffic laws and failing to wear safety gear such as helmets.

“Too often, we see these vehicles being driven in ways that put lives at risk,” Sheriff James Pohlmann said. “Whether it’s a dirt bike, ATV or golf cart, these vehicles can become extremely dangerous when operated illegally or without regard for traffic laws and safety.”

The Sheriff urged parents and guardians to speak with their children about safe and lawful riding practices and to closely monitor where and how these vehicles are being used.

Deputies will continue enforcing laws related to illegal ATV, dirt bike and golf cart operation throughout St. Bernard Parish. Violators may receive citations, and vehicles may be impounded.

Anyone who witnesses reckless or illegal operation of ATVs, dirt bikes or golf carts is encouraged to contact the St. Bernard Sheriff’s Office at (504) 271-2501 or the Traffic Division hotline at (504) 278-7677.☎️
