Initial Jobless Claims, which measures individuals filing for unemployment benefits for the first time, fell 30,000 to 260,000. Continuing claims, which are those that continue to receive benefits after their initial claim, rose 51,000 to 1.675M. We down know how much of the recent upturn in claims is due to Omicron, but with the Covid numbers falling sharply, we will get an idea of what’s really going on in the coming weeks. This level of claims is still pretty strong, with continuing claims back where it was in January of 2020.
