Calling all agriculture enthusiasts! This is your chance to participate in gathering data for the American Farm Bureau Federation's (AFBF) Summer Cookout Survey of retail food prices commonly used to prepare a cookout meal for 10 people. The survey tracks prices on commonly found foods including ground beef, American cheese, hamburger buns, chicken breasts, pork chops, potatoes, onions, celery, eggs, canned pork & beans, strawberries, lemons, sugar, chocolate chip cookies, and ice cream.

Survey results will be used for a July 4th national publicity campaign on the retail cost of food that emphasizes its relatively small increase in price over time compared to other consumer goods, as well as the contribution of U.S. food, fiber and fuel production to national security.

To fill out the survey, go to FB.Org/CookoutSurvey. The link is currently active and closes June 7 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Please take the time to fill out this survey, as you can do so in person at the grocery store or fully online!

Rob Sakata is a tremendous leader in the agriculture community, but he has experienced his fair share of struggles as well. It is his vulnerability and willingness to talk about those struggles that make him stronger and more relatable.

Even though Mental Health Awareness Month is drawing to a close, the conversations surrounding agriculture and mental health will not stop. The Colorado Farm Bureau is here to support our states' farmers and ranchers during both good times and difficult ones. If you need help, please reach out to someone in your community and remember that we are stronger together. If you would like further assistance, go to campforhealth.org to recieve vouchers for 10 free counseling sessions.

CFB's Director of Industry Relations Tim Miller is part of the Ag Behavioral Health Work Group, along with Rob Sakata and Chad Reznicek. The group was created by Colorado legislation SB24-055 to support the Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) and the Behavorial Health Administration by including various interest groups in discussing how to best support ag workers.

Ultimately, the work group will report their findings to CDA and BHA and recommend legislative or policy changes. As for now, if ag workers need assistance with their behavioral or mental health, go to campforhealth.org.

Did you know that Colorado offers free counseling sessions for farmers and ranchers? We're one of only 15 states with a program like this, and now is the time to take advantage of it. Chad Reznicek, Behavioral Health State Specialist with Colorado State University (CSU) Extension and the Colorado AgrAbility Project, truly believes that the Colorado Agricultural Addiction and Mental Health Program (CAAMHP) is beneficial for everyone in the agricultural community.

CAAMHP is easy to access and free to use- just go to campforhealth.org and put in your email to get your access code for 10 free sessions with one of their nine licensed providers. Never be afraid to reach out and ask for help.

Do you have 8 minutes? In talking with Rob Sakata, who is the Senior Advisor to the Commissioner in the Colorado Department of Agriculture and runs Sakata Farms, "the gift of 8 minutes" can be a very powerful tool for mental health awareness.

Popularized by author and speaker Simon Sinek, the idea is that all someone needs to get back on track is 8 minutes of help or support from someone in their life. Asking for only 8 minutes can alleviate the fear of taking too much time from someone's day, or feeling like a burden. On the flip side, you can use 8 minutes of your day to call and check in on a friend who you're worried about.

If someone asks you for 8 minutes, know that they are looking for support and a listening ear. As the month of May draws to a close, look around and see who you can help with just 8 minutes of your time.

As humans living in community together, we weren't made to do things alone. This especially applies to your mental health.

The stressors associated with farm and ranch life can have a significant long-term impact on your mental health. This can lead to a lack of sleep, substance abuse, and more.

Don't be afraid to ask for help. Visit coloradofarmbureau.com/caamhp for more information.

Yesterday morning, Boulder-St. Vrain Valley Farm Bureau used their county grant to host a farm tour for Colorado legislators and community members! The group toured three farms in the area, talking about local issues and how their various products are grown. The tour wrapped up with lunch prepared by Jayde Van Cleave and CFB staff on the grill trailer.

Thank you to Representative Karen McCormick for joining us on the tour!
