We are pleased to announce that the Colorado Farm Bureau has exceeded our membership goal for the 2025-2026 Membership Year! We increased our overall membership by 860, bringing us to a total of 19,497 members. This total includes both agricultural and associate members. Thank you to the Colorado Farm Bureau Insurance Company for their partnership in inviting more folks become members of the CFB Federation!

Our overall agricultural members decreased in that time, so if you want to support agriculture and farmers in Colorado, we encourage you to upgrade your membership to the agricultural level! This membership level does not require you to be an agriculture producer and is only $100 per year.

CFB's Associate Director of Leadership Development Brandon Bainer was recently accepted into the Leadership Program of the Rockies (LPR) Class of 2027! LPR is America’s premier institute to develop, strengthen, train and equip emerging leaders to reach new heights in public policy and the political process.

"I wanted to participate in LPR because they were founded on a lot of the same principles that the Colorado Farm Bureau (CFB) was founded on," Bainer said. "It gives me a chance to network with some of the more influential people in Colorado and make sure that CFB's priorities are heard. I hope to learn how to better induce conversations around these principles from members and the community. Additionally, I hope to be able to use what I learn to share with our members and help create future leaders at CFB."

We are pleased to announce that Director and Senior Attorney of Mountain States Legal Foundation’s Center for American Prosperity & Energy, Kole Kelley, will be hosting a breakout session on Friday afternoon during this year's Annual Meeting! Kole is also President of Douglas County Farm Bureau and Chair of the Young Farmers and Ranchers Committee.

Raised on his family’s cattle and show-pig farm in Alamosa, Colorado, Kole brings firsthand experience in agriculture and rural communities to his work. He leads litigation and advocacy to protect private property rights, advance domestic energy production, defend free enterprise, and challenge unlawful government overreach. His work focuses on the legal and regulatory issues affecting farmers, ranchers, landowners, producers, and rural communities across the West.

Last Monday, President Trump signed an Executive Order at a campaign rally in Grand Island, Nebraska aimed at bringing down the price of fuel, particularly for farmers and ranchers. We have seen record gasoline and diesel prices due to a globally strained supply chain and limited domestic refinery capacity as international conflicts wage on in both the Middle East and Ukraine.

It's important to note that the Trump order deferring tax payments offers no guarantee of forgiveness as Congress must approve any and all taxation measures.

Many states announced additional mechanisms to help with fuel prices and Colorado's action was announced Friday.

Governor Polis announced an executive order that does following:

1. Directs CDOT to issue permits allowing truckers to carry more fuel on state highways pending compliance with safety regulations.
2. Directs the Colorado Department of Public Safety (State Patrol) to avoid enforcing the prohibition of dyed diesel fuel on State highways, including initiating inspections, citations, or other enforcement actions based on the presence of dyed diesel fuel, until December 31, 2026.
3. Directs the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to submit a request to the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to waive Reformulated Gas requirements during summer 2027 to increase supply and lower the cost of gas.

Each year, YF&R selects an up-and-coming farmer or rancher as that year's emerging leader, and they are presented with an award at Annual Meeting. Nominations for this year's Emerging Leader Award are now open!

The award recognizes YF&R members who are active in Farm Bureau, their county, their community, in the YF&R program, participate in YF&R competitions, show leadership gained through the YF&R program and display personal and professional growth by participating in YF&R activities. We are pleased to announce that former Denver7 Chief Meteorologist Mike Nelson will be hosting a breakout session titled "Weather, Water, Drought, and Supergrid Program" on Friday afternoon during this year's Annual Meeting!

Mike received his 4-year degree in Meteorology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and began his career in 1976 at WKOW-TV and Weather Central. He served as Chief Meteorologist for Denver7 from 2004 to 2024, and he has spoken to over one million kids, many clubs, and service organizations since the start of his career.

His many accolades include being inducted into the “Silver Circle” in 2016, recognizing 25 years of Broadcast Excellence and Community Service in Colorado, being the only Colorado TV Meteorologist ever named a Fellow of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) in 2019, and the first and only meteorologist to be inducted into the Denver Press Club Hall of Fame in October 2023.

On December 12, 2024, Mike retired from television to pursue other ventures in renewable energy and climate change. He and his wife, Cindy, have two grown children and three grandkids and are blessed to have them all live nearby.
