It's been a while, so in the ongoing spirit of "Working for the Long Haul" here is installment #12: "If you learn to pace yourself, you can run a very long time." This may seem self-explanatory, but sometimes we need to remind ourselves that life itself is a journey and not a sprint. Why not try to enjoy the journey a little bit more? That said, feel free to share this with friends and family, and if we can be of service, have them call us at (319) 862-2400! We wish you the very best on YOUR journey, today and always!

Installment #11 of "Working for the Long Haul": Avoid draining, negative people whenever possible. It's contagious. The old saying is that "too much of a good thing is bad for you". You know what's worse? Too much of a negative-minded individual who seems intend on painting every room they enter with "happiness repellant". Nobody has the right to make you feel bad -- or down -- without your permission. DON'T GIVE IT TO THEM! Surround yourself with the people who make you feel good and then, extend it out to others! You'll be surprised at the cascading effects are!

Installment #10 (appropriately enough) of "Working for the Long Haul": Learn that not everything's a '10' on the importance scale. Sometimes it's easy to become overcome with the feelings of urgency. If that happens, take a step back, breathe a bit, and ask yourself "just how important IS that?" I think we can all agree that there are very few times in life that the '10' level is really justified and we can cut oursleves just a little bit of slack. Now..... breathe.... 1,2,3,4..............

Another installment of "Working for the Long Haul":

#9: Grow a thicker skin. During these times it's all too easy to take comments the wrong way, or to let a percieved negative comment ruin one's day and occupy their thoughts. We can have our mettle tested at times, so be like the rhinoceros and grow a thick skin! You'll be glad you did!

Another beautiful Fall day, and another installment of "Working for the Long Haul":

#8: Use PTO wisely. Don't get exhausted on your vacation. Paid Time Off (PTO) is, of course, for those who aren't retired or self-employed, but the premise remains: don't try making up for lost time by trying to do everything during your time away on vacation or a sabbatical, if applicable. These are times for re-energizing, to decompress and reflect and to simply BREATHE. Life can become hectic enough without adding to that on our time off. Treat yourself right, do something good for your soul!

#7 of "Working for the Long Haul":

Set some boundaries: We all have boundaries in our lives that help us establish who we are, how we treat others and expect others to treat us. Boundaries help not only ourselves, but also others, and help set the stage for healthy relationships, whether in or out of the workplace. In the end, we ALL benefit!
