A 1% fee is worth it for planning. It’s a waste for fund-picking.
If your advisor is choosing funds and rebalancing once a year, you’re paying a planning price for something you could replicate in an afternoon with one index ETF.
The fee earns its keep when someone tells you which accounts to draw from first, how to hold your tax bill down across a 30-year retirement, when to turn on Social Security, and how much you can spend without running out.
Ask your rep to walk you through your withdrawal and tax plan. If what you get back is a portfolio review, you have your answer.
