Thanks to Benny from VFIS of Texas for sharing information with our members at this weekend‘s District Leaders Meeting!

He reminded everyone that VFIS sponsors the annual Firefighter of the Year and EMS Responder of the Year contests! Each winner receives $3,000. (You read that right!!) Runners up also earn cash prizes.

The process starts at the districts and the final winners, selected by the submission committee, are announced and receive awards at the June conference. THEY GET 3,000 DOLLARS. 💵 Submit your district’s FFOY and EMS Responder of the Year!!

Our SAFE-D 2025 Conference is the year's biggest meeting related to ESDs and ESD issues. The event will be Feb. 6-8, 2025 at Round Rock's Kalahari Resort. Just like previous years, the Conference will give you the opportunity to gain knowledge and skills that will help you better serve your districts. This is the premier educational event for Texas Emergency Services Districts.

SAFE-D will apply to the V.G. Young Institute of County Government, part of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, to serve as the event's Educational Sponsor and certify this training for ESD Commissioner Continuing Education.

In 1969, Arthur J. Glatfelter recognized that the brave firefighters in his community were overlooked by insurers—and felt it was his duty to give them the protections they deserved. That's when he pioneered the first-ever specialized insurance program for firefighters: VFIS.

While much has changed since then, including expanding our offerings to serve many types of emergency service organizations, our mission has remained the same: do the right thing for hometown heroes.

Filing a claim after the wildfire - what you need to know:
• Describe the property and/or auto damage in detail and discuss the type of damage.
• Carefully survey all damage and take photos first if you are able to do so safely.
• Take inventory of personal property and portable equipment that has been damaged, and set aside for the claims adjuster to inspect.
• Be sure to provide the contact information where you can be easily reached.
