More sales would be great. But how much of those sales is actually staying in your business?

Before you spend Q4 chasing a bigger revenue number, take a look at:

☕ Which services are making you money?
☕ Which expenses have grown without you noticing?
☕ Which clients take more time than your pricing covers?
☕ How much cash will you need heading into January?

You can be busy, booked, and still wondering where the money went.

Let’s make sure all that hard work is moving you in the direction you want to go.

Your business can be profitable and still struggle to pay the bills.

That’s why we need to talk about cash flow; because money coming in doesn’t always line up with money going out.

A few things to stay on top of:

✔️ Build a cash cushion. Start with what you can and work toward having several months of expenses set aside.

✔️ Send invoices promptly and follow up. You’ve done the work; collecting payment needs to be part of the process, too.

✔️ Look ahead. Slow seasons, annual renewals, and tax payments are easier to manage when you plan for them.

And a few things to avoid:

🚫 Taking on debt without knowing how the payments will fit into your cash flow.

🚫 Committing to ongoing expenses based on one really good month.

🚫 Assuming money in the bank means it’s available to spend. Some of it may already have a job.

Good bookkeeping helps you see where your money went. Regular cash flow planning helps you prepare for what’s coming.

When was the last time you looked at what your business will need over the next 30 days?

The way you think about money shapes the way you manage it. If you've always seen bookkeeping as a chore or your finances as something to avoid looking at too closely, that mindset is quietly holding your business back.

But when you start seeing your numbers as a tool instead of a burden, everything shifts. You stop dreading your financials and start using them to make smarter decisions. You stop fearing tax season and start planning for it. You stop feeling behind and start feeling in control.

Your business can only grow as much as your mindset allows it to. Shift the way you think about your finances, and watch what becomes possible.

Ready to change the way you think about your books? We would love to help.

Saturday Reminder

Growth doesn't always look like a big milestone. Sometimes it's landing a new client, finally getting your accounts reconciled, or just feeling a little more confident looking at your numbers than you did last month. Progress doesn't have to be loud to count.

Small, consistent steps add up faster than you'd think, and every bit of forward motion is worth celebrating.

So whatever growth looks like for you this week, big or small, keep going. You're doing better than you think.

Non Negotiable Qualities of a Good Accountant

When you are trusting someone with your business finances, not just any accountant will do. Here are three qualities that should be non negotiable when choosing who handles your books.

Trustworthiness. You need to know your financial information is being handled with honesty and integrity, every single time.

Knowledgeable. Tax laws and financial best practices change constantly. A good accountant stays current so you do not have to.

Communication. Numbers only help you if you actually understand them. Your accountant should be able to explain your financials clearly, not bury you in jargon.

Your books tell a story.

Messy books mean a messy story, and that story is often what lenders, donors, and even your future self will read when it matters most.

Clean, organized bookkeeping does more than keep you compliant. It shows the real narrative of your business: where your money is coming from, where it is going, and how healthy your operations actually are. When your books are a mess, that story becomes hard to trust, and even harder to use for making good decisions.

What story are your books telling right now? If it is not the one you want, it might be time for a bookkeeping refresh.

Did You Know?

Staying on top of your bookkeeping can help you catch tax deductions you might otherwise miss. It is one of the simplest ways to keep more money in your business instead of handing it over at tax time.

Many small business owners lose out on deductions each year simply because their records are not organized or up to date. Consistent bookkeeping gives you a clear, accurate picture of your expenses so nothing slips through the cracks.

Want to make sure you are not leaving money on the table this tax season? Let's talk about how better bookkeeping can support your bottom line.
