🍎 Kentucky Teachers — Important Update on Your Retirement & Life Insurance 📚

Big news for Kentucky educators! The Social Security Fairness Act, signed in January 2025, repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and Government Pension Offset (GPO) — meaning teachers can now receive their full Social Security benefits, including spousal and survivor benefits, without reductions.

This is great progress — but even with these changes, TRS and Social Security benefits together may still not be enough to fully protect your family.

Here’s why

1. TRS Life Insurance Benefits:

Tier 1–3 members: $2,000 death benefit

Tier 4 and retirees: $5,000 death benefit

2. Social Security Survivor Benefit:

Adds just $255 for those who’ve paid into Social Security
