September has a way of resetting the calendar.

Schedules tighten, routines come back, and the rest of the year suddenly feels shorter than it did in July. It's also the point where the planning items that actually take time — withdrawal timing, tax decisions, charitable giving, Medicare choices — still have room to be handled thoughtfully instead of rushed in December.

The fourth quarter tends to reward the people who start thinking about it in the third.

As August wraps up, here’s a good question to carry into September:

What part of your financial life would feel most helpful to simplify or strengthen right now?

Maybe it’s income planning. Maybe it’s taxes. Maybe it’s getting a better sense of how everything fits together. Sometimes the most valuable next step isn’t dramatic. It’s simply getting clearer. ☕️

“Should we simplify our accounts?”

That’s often a bigger question than it sounds.

Old 401(k)s, IRAs, brokerage accounts, inherited accounts, pensions — over time, a financial life can start to feel more complicated than it needs to be. Simplifying doesn’t mean doing less. It often means making it easier to see your strategy clearly.

Retirement readiness isn’t just about how much you’ve saved... it’s about how you want to live.

In this conversation, with and break down a simple, 5-step checklist to help you prepare for your next chapter:

✔️ Define what retirement actually looks like for you
✔️ Take stock of your financial and personal assets
✔️ Prioritize your health (it affects more than you think)
✔️ Build a realistic retirement budget
✔️ Decide when to claim Social Security

The earlier you start planning, the more freedom you have to actually achieve your goals. If you'd like to talk with Mark to start building a retirement plan that aligns with your life, not just your balance sheet, feel free to give him a call at (303) 688-0260 or visit www.McGregorWealth.com

Social Security is one of the most personal planning decisions in retirement.

For some households, claiming earlier makes sense. For others, waiting creates more long-term value. The key is that the decision should fit the full picture — not just one benefit estimate.

That includes your spouse, other income sources, taxes, and how much pressure you want your portfolio to carry.

Your expenses keep rising. Does your retirement income?

Inflation was a manageable problem while you were working, because raises did some of the work for you. In retirement, only part of your income adjusts on its own, and the adjustments usually arrive after costs have already gone up.

Our latest article looks at what recent inflation has meant for retirees, which investment approaches have historically kept pace with rising costs, where Treasury I bonds and TIPS may fit, and the everyday adjustments that help protect the parts of retirement you actually care about.

Some of the most valuable planning conversations have nothing to do with chasing returns.

They’re about alignment.

✓ Is your money supporting the lifestyle you want?
✓ Is your withdrawal strategy tax-aware?
✓ Are healthcare and legacy goals part of the same conversation?
✓ Does your portfolio still match your stage of life?

When those answers start to line up, the whole plan tends to feel stronger.

Roth conversions are one of those strategies that can be helpful — but only when the timing makes sense.

Before making a move, it helps to ask:

1. What tax bracket are we in now?
2. When will Social Security begin?
3. How could future RMDs affect us?
4. Would a conversion create more flexibility later?

The goal isn’t to do more. It’s to make the right move at the right time.

Market headlines can make it feel like action is always required.

Often, it isn’t.

The better question is whether your plan is built to handle volatility without forcing emotional decisions. That may mean reviewing risk, income sources, cash reserves, and how much flexibility your plan has when markets are under pressure.

Confidence usually comes from preparation, not prediction.
