BEST FRIENDS DAY
Best Friends Day falls on June 8 each year to honor your closest and dearest friend. The relationship between best friends is often fierce and can withstand distance, storms and silence. Whether we’ve known them all our lives or they are more recently acquired, best friends make tough times bearable, fun times memorable, and memorable times priceless.

When it comes to best friends, they run the gamut. They may be exactly like us or our complete opposite. According to a 2018 Pew Research poll, 98% of teens have one or more close friends and 78% of them say they have one to five close friends. However, as we move into adulthood, our friendship-making ability changes, along with our priorities.

Whether our best friends are from childhood or later in life varies. But one thing is sure--best friends smooth over the rough edges in life and make the rest of it quite interesting. No matter how many best friends surround you, get together and celebrate your best friend today!

HOW TO OBSERVE BEST FRIENDS DAY
Celebrate the day by letting your best friends know how much they mean to you!

Far or near, send your best friend a note.

Share a memory or two on social media using the hashtag .

Watch movies about best friends. We suggest Thelma and Louis, 9 to 5, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Joy Luck Club, The Shawshank Redemption, A League of Their Own, Wayne's World, and Lord of the Rings.

Make a new best friend. You can have more than one, you know!

Invite your best friend(s) to dinner.

NATIONAL CHEESE DAY
Moooove over whiners! June 4 is National Cheese Day! An encyclopedia of cheese will cover the alphabet and broaden your vocabulary. It will undoubtedly contain more varieties of cheese than what's found at the local grocer.

Cheese is produced from the pressed curds of milk. The milk can come from cows, buffalo, goats, or sheep. Temperature and aging affect the flavor and texture of the cheese, as well as spices and other seasonings added during the process.

The opportunity to go to a cheese tasting or visit a cheesemonger who is knowledgeable about pairings will improve your enjoyment of the cheese you choose. Does Stilton melt? Can you serve Chévre with a salad? Be sure to ask questions and provide your preferences. Your favorite wine might find a new sidekick. You might discover a smokey spread to go with bruschetta or a tangy cheddar to pack with lunch.

In the United States, a road trip to Wisconsin isn't out of the question for quality and variety. But, they aren't the only place to find outstanding flavor and choice. Local delis have selections of domestic and imported cheeses, and independent shops offer a rotating inventory beckoning us to keep visiting to see what's new.

Excellent as a snack on its own, cheese is also a perfect ingredient in pasta, soups, souffle, and many other recipes. We slap it on a sandwich cold, but why stop there when it can be grilled and melted. When company comes to visit, nothing is better than a cheeseball, especially when bacon is added.

Cheese is multinational, too! Every nation in the world has its own variety of cheese. Italy seems to have harnessed the market. They did add it to pizza, and that's pretty amazing. Savor the opportunity if you ever have the chance to taste cheeses from around the world. For example, hop on over to Greece. They have this dessert called cheesecake. Delicious!

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL CHEESE DAY
There are many ways to celebrate National Cheese Day. Try a new recipe or take a risk and try a type of cheese you've never heard of before. Ask for recommendations from friends or share your favorites. Make sure you share your love of cheese on social media using the hashtag .

NATIONAL EGG DAY
National Egg Day falls on June 3 on the National Day Calendar and it's a perfect time to get a crack on celebrating this food holiday.

Eggs are a nutrient-rich food that has gone back and forth with science and nutritionists over the decades with people asking how many eggs are too many for a healthy diet. Whatever the decision is this year, we know one egg provides an excellent source of protein and vitamin D. At 75 calories and 5 grams of fat, it's an easy choice to satisfy hunger, too.

5 Egg-celent Facts
About 100 billion eggs are produced by American egg farmers each year.

Fresh eggs are hard to peel.

The average American consumes about 285 eggs a year.

Egg shells can have more than 17,000 pores.

Storing eggs upside down makes them last longer.

Eggs are easily seasoned and pair well with vegetables to increase the nutritional value of a meal. Eggs are an essential ingredient to baked goods and are a part of our everyday diets. There's so much to celebrate in these small packages.

NATIONAL ROCKY ROAD DAY
National Rocky Road Day on June 2 celebrates the combination of chocolate ice cream, marshmallows, and nuts all in one! Whether you like Rocky Road ice cream in a bowl, on a cone, or straight out of the container, we know this delicious food holiday is going to be a big celebration.

Although Rocky Road comes in many variations, traditionally, the ice cream includes chocolate ice cream, nuts, and marshmallows. Today, there are variations with vanilla ice cream, chocolate chips, and almonds.

People have been enjoying this delicious combination for many years. There are varying accounts of the origin of this ice cream, as there often is with the creation of something new. Sometime during the late 1920s, William Dreyer used inspiration from his partner Joseph Edy's chocolate candy to make rocky road ice cream. Dryer did something he was probably told a hundred times not to do. He used his wife's sewing scissors to chop up marshmallows and walnuts and added them to chocolate ice cream. Of course, it tasted good, so he was probably forgiven for using her good sewing shears for anything but fabric!

Another who laid claim to the creation of rocky road ice cream was George Farren. He had simply blended a candy bar into chocolate ice cream creating the creamy dessert.

HOW TO ENJOY ROCKY ROAD DAY
Enjoy a bowl of Rocky Road Ice Cream, some Rocky Road candy bars, cake, or other Rocky Road dessert! Use to post on social media.

NATIONAL NAIL POLISH DAY | JUNE 1
On June 1st we celebrate National Nail Polish Day in hopes this celebration primes you with every shade under the sun. It's time to show off your toes and enjoy the summertime!

From the French manicure to elaborate nail art, nail polish has come a long way since the bees’ wax and gum Arabic used by the Chinese around 3,000 B.C. Egyptians in high societies used reddish brown henna to paint their nails. Through the years, nail polish has gone through several transformations. Around the nineteenth century, people began polishing their nails with tinted powders and pastes. They also buffed their fingernails to make them shiny.

Who invented nail polish? Northam Warren invented nail polish in 1911. As a known chemist, Warren first developed a liquid to remove dead cuticles without having to cut or scrape them. By 1916, he his invention led to the creation of a colorless nail polish.

In 1920 a makeup artist by the name of Michelle Menard developed brush-on varnishes that had the same properties as automobile paint. The improvements of Menard's formula were especially popular with flappers throughout the 1920s who would paint their nails with the varnish. By 1932, Menard began her own cosmetic company, selling nail polish in a variety of colors. The company sold this new and improved type of nail polish at drugstores and department stores throughout the country. Since then, millions of women have painted their nails on a regular basis.

Not So Secret Facts
Why do people polish their nails? People polish their nails because it makes their hands look more attractive. Painting your nails also protects them for breakage. Others paint their nails to enjoy the relaxation that accompanies getting their nails done. With so many colors to choose from, nail polish is also a marvelous way to accessorize or accentuate an outfit.

Do nail polish colors signify different events? Some people choose to wear a certain color of nail polish to match the season or their mood. And, there is also a shade or hue for every occasion. Vibrant reds, turquoises, and plums make summer nails shine during beach parties and weekend barbecues. The understated style of pale pinks and beiges, or a subtle moss, help women look workweek chic. For those elegant evenings, or just to make a statement, nail polish adds gold, silver and sparkle to even the most economic wardrobe.

While certain nail polish colors come and go, there are those that will never go out of style. For the last several years, the following nail polish colors have stood the test of time:

Jet black
Cherry red
Cool blue
Light lavender
Fine wine
Pure white
Chocolate brown
Iridescent rainbow
Nearly neon orange
Blackberry

Timeline Tidbits
In 1934, nail polish was often referred to as lacquer and cost 35 cents a bottle.

A bottle of nail polish costs anywhere from $2 to $25 today.

The most expensive nail polish in the world costs $250,000. This nail polish is made with black diamonds.

As opposed to only having three shades of red to choose from in the past, some companies make over 300 hundred different colors of nail polish. An opened bottle of nail polish only lasts a couple of years.

To maximize its shelf life, you should store your nail polish in a dry space at room temperature.

What are some unconventional uses for nail polish? Like most products, there are some unconventional uses for nail polish. For example, nail polish can be used to keep costume jewelry looking like new. Many people use it to stop a run or snag in your nylon stockings. Around the office, nail polish can be used to seal envelopes and color code your keyboard. At home, clear nail polish is used to threading a needle, stop a small tear in curtains and fill holes where pictures used to hang.

NATIONAL FLIP FLOP DAY
Each year on the Wednesday after Memorial Day, National Flip Flop Day encourages us to wear our favorite flip flops and show them off!

Flip flops are a lightweight footwear is designed to protect our tender feet from the hot ground and sand. These thong style sandals are by no means new to footwear. They’ve been around for thousands of years. However, the term “flip flop” has applied to flat-soled sandals with straps between the first and second toes and across the top of the foot since the 1960s. The term also describes someone who changes their mind or an electronic component.

National Flip Flop Day strictly recognizes the footwear that makes a flip-flopping sound as we walk, slapping the back of our feet as we head to the beach or make way for the pool. These sandals come in all shades and colors, beaded, bejeweled, and even bedazzled. Some are made of leather and cork. They’re also easy to remove and put on quickly making it easy to go to from the beach to a semi-formal dining event in an instant!

HOW TO OBSERVE NATIONAL FLIP FLOP DAY
Flip Flop Day is the perfect time to go shopping for a new pair of flip flops. While you’re out and about, get a manicure, so you can show off your toes in your flip flops. Wear your favorite flip flops and use to share on social media.
