We always talk about your goals. Sometimes these goals are not about finances. One of my goals in 2026 is to continue to focus on my fitness. Super Bowl Sunday morning I convinced 3 other crazies to join me in Greensboro, to run the Heartbreaker, a team Marathon. In preparing for the unexpected, it was just 17 degrees at the start. We finished 9th out of 33 mixed teams with an average mile pace of 8:40. We’ve got our eyes set to do even better in 2027 and adding a longer race to go with it. Thank you to JT, Elizabeth and Andy for carrying me through.

Setting goals and being committed to them is important not only in your finances but for life in general.

I am fortunate enough to share Carolina Hurricane season ticket package with a few other families. My daughter Reagan and I enjoy going to a few games a year together. I see this as a fantastic opportunity to get more time with her, at a super fun, loud, and thrilling environment. 2 tickets for last nights Game 5 playoff game between the Canes and the NJ Devils came up for grabs on Sunday afternoon. I was about to reply we’re in!

Reagan says, dad, I can’t go. “School, smool” I said. “You can go in late on Wednesday. It’s game 5! They can advance to the next round with a W. You know how loud, how exciting it’ll be?” Reagan’s reply was, it’s not about school. My band has practice Tuesday nights. We are just 2 weeks away for my first gig with them. I’ve committed to them. I need to go practice. I want to be with them.

Even after a double overtime 3-0 deficit come back win for the Hurricanes, she’s glad she stuck with her gut. The dedication to her goals and her priorities is impressive. I’ll be interested to how this translates into her financial world.

What are some of your goals and how do you prioritize getting them achieved?

I am thrilled to announce that Melissa Kennedy has joined our team as a Client Relationship Manager. I have known Melissa and her family for almost 10 years now. We live in the same neighborhood, our kids go to the same school and we do the crazy outdoor workouts together through Cynergy Fit. Melissa and her husband, Jay, are the ones who talked me into the Tuna Run, a 200 mile team relay race.

Melissa and Jay have 3 children: Cole (21) Cate (graduates high school next month) and Camille (8th grade). Melissa enjoys all things Tennessee and is up for any challenge at any time.

As a client relationship manager, Melissa will be our client scheduling coordinator, practice organizer and behind-the-scene project manager that helps keep me and our office running smoothly. I was thrilled when Melissa and I started chatting earlier this year about her coming back to the workforce after many years of focusing on the family homestead. Welcome aboard, Melissa!

“The economy is on firm ground, rates are now easing, and corporate profits are growing. Overall, that's a positive tailwind for asset prices. Notably, lower rates favor stocks when the economy isn't in a recession.”– Anthony Saglimbene, Ameriprise Chief Market Strategist

Our daughter starts sophomore year of high school. Where has time gone? The Backpacks, Binders, pens…just a couple of things on a long list of supplies you might be picking up over the next couple of days. While these costs can add up quickly in today’s environment, the cost of college can add up even faster. This is especially true when you consider interest on student loans. We should talk about 529 plans and other educational savings tools that you might want to consider to try and rescue the overall cost of college.

Everyone needs nutritious food to thrive, and in every community in America, people are working hard to provide for themselves and their families. Yet, 34 million people, including more than 9 million children, experience food insecurity in the U.S. To help, Ameriprise is matching donations to Feeding America up to $250,000 now through October 31. With the match, each dollar donated will provide 20 meals to neighbors struggling with hunger. To learn more, visit www.feedingamerica.org/ameriprise

I just donated to to help make sure families and kids have the meals they need! http://feeding.am/givemeals
