Presented through a partnership between WNC and Truckee Meadows Community College, these classes are designed to help participants improve their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills for everyday life, work and community connections.

WNC President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe recently attended and spoke at Nevada Virtual Charter School’s graduation ceremony in Las Vegas to celebrate these outstanding Jump Start students and their remarkable achievements.
Nine graduates earned their associate degrees from Western Nevada College before even receiving their high school diplomas. This is an incredible accomplishment that reflects hard work, determination and a commitment to their futures.
Through partnerships with schools across Nevada, WNC’s Jump Start program continues to create opportunities for students from every corner of the state to begin their college journey early and graduate with a significant head start.

🏃‍♀️⚽🎯 Scholarships are now available for WNC's Kids College Summer Sports Camps! 🎯⚽🏃‍♂️
Looking for an active and exciting summer experience for your child? Western Nevada College Continuing Education is offering scholarships for Summer Sports Camp sessions July 13–17 and July 27–31!
Through our partnership with Skiing is Believing, campers ages 8–14 can explore sports, fitness, outdoor activities and community experiences while building confidence and making new friends. Each week will include a combination of mountain biking, hiking, martial arts, community services and education, softball/baseball, archery, general fitness, flag football, inline skating and more! All sports are taught by sport-specific SIB staff and coaches, and camps run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

🤠📸 Discover the story behind Nevada’s buckaroos!
Join us on Wednesday, June 17 for a special presentation by Dr. Michael Fischer, local historian and former director of Nevada’s Department of Cultural Affairs, as he explores what makes Nevada’s cowboy tradition unique and how the region’s cowboys came to be known as buckaroos.
The presentation from 5:30 to 7 p.m. complements Selections from The Last Cowboy, an exhibition featuring powerful photographs by Adam Jahiel that capture the enduring ranching culture and buckaroo lifestyle of the Great Basin. The exhibit showcases images from the Elko region and offers a rare glimpse into a way of life that continues to shape Nevada’s heritage.

🖼️ The Last Cowboy is on display through Sept. 9 in the Bristlecone Gallery, located in the Bristlecone Building on WNC’s Carson City campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

🎉 A Historic Step Forward for Western Nevada College! 🎉
Today at the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents quarterly meeting at the University of Nevada, Reno, Western Nevada College received approval for its 2026-33 Strategic Plan and an updated Mission Statement, marking an exciting new chapter for the college and the communities we serve.
These approvals reflect WNC’s continued commitment to student success, workforce development, innovation and expanding educational opportunities throughout our region.
The newly approved Strategic Plan will help guide the college’s priorities and growth over the coming years with a focus on access, learner success, workforce, organizational health and community. The updated Mission Statement reaffirms WNC’s dedication to empowering and supporting every learner, a commitment to providing accessible, high-quality education, and a dedication to adapt to change.
Thank you to the faculty, staff, students, community members and partners whose input and collaboration, as well as data-informed planning, helped shape this important work!
The future is bright at WNC, and we’re just getting started.

Jack C. Davis Observatory (JCDO) Director Dr. Thomas Herring will shed light on dark energy during a Star Party scheduled for Saturday night.
Dr. Herring will talk about one of the present mysteries of the universe: Why is the expansion of the universe accelerating?
"I'll provide some history about looking at the universe, how the idea of an expanding universe came about, the measurements that won a Nobel prize and convinced physicists that dark energy exists at all, and why we continue to question the fate of the universe," he said. "The main spoiler is that the word 'dark' is physics code for we don't really know or understand but think there's something to investigate."
With clear skies expected, there should also be stellar telescope viewing, including Jupiter and Venus. JCDO's high-powered telescopes bring distant planets, stars and galaxies into focus.
"There are quite a few good globular clusters and a few galaxies that provide nice views this time of year as well," Dr. Herring said.
Dr. Herring and a volunteer have a particular interest in the exoplanet transiting its star late Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the free event.
The observatory is located at 2269 Vanpatten Ave., on the northern end of WNC’s Carson City campus.

Congratulations to the 539 students who earned a place on Western Nevada College’s Spring 2026 Dean’s List!
This remarkable achievement reflects the dedication, perseverance and hard work of students who completed at least 12 credits while maintaining a GPA of 3.50 or higher.
Even more impressive, this semester's Dean’s List is among the highest in recent WNC history and nearly 100 more students than last spring.

Today (June 10) is the last day to add a Summer Session full-term class through myWNC. Starting Thursday, a late registration form with instructor approval must be submitted to Admissions and Records.

Summer Session concludes on Aug. 1.
If Summer Session isn't for you, then start planning for the 2026 Fall Semester, which begins on Aug. 31.
