It is always a nice surprise when we receive a thank you note… educating and helping people obtain the insurance they need is what we do.

Long, but worth the read!

I spoke with a prospective client today who told me another insurance broker told him the only medical insurance option he has is with Hometown Health (for those reading this who are not local to Nevada, Hometown Health is one of several insurance companies available to residents of Nevada).

To say he was surprised when I told him he actually has five different insurance carriers (Ambetter Health, Anthem BCBS, Friday Health Plans of Nevada, Health Plan of Nevada and Hometown Health/Renown Health Plan) to choose from (he lives in Reno/Washoe county) would be an understatement.

When I obtained information about his tax filing household size and projected Modified Adjusted Gross Income for 2021 and told him he will qualify for financial assistance to help pay the monthly premium and that Hometown Health/Renown Health only offers their plans off the Exchange/Marketplace, where financial assistance is not available, he was quite upset.

When I told him how we as insurance professionals are compensated (that working with an insurance professional does not cost him anything and it doesn’t change what is available to him or the amount of financial assistance he and his family can qualify for) and that Hometown Health pays insurance agents/brokers more than any of the other carriers, he was more than upset.

Needless to say… I have a new client!

Unfortunately, not everyone behaves ethically/morally. When in doubt, most state insurance departments have information on their websites about the insurance carriers who are admitted to sell in that state… it may take a little bit of clicking but it is worth the effort to make sure you have accurate information.

Today, Northern Nevada Association of Health Underwriters (NNAHU) members chatted with Congressman Mark Amodei to talk about Medicare, the Employer Tax Exclusion, Public Option / Medicare for All and COVID-19 relief. Thank you, Congressman Amodei for your support of agents, brokers and consumers!

February is Children’s Dental Health Month:

Did you know that nearly 1 in 5 U.S. children under the age of 5 have experienced some form of dental caries (caries is commonly referred to as cavities or tooth decay).

For this reason, The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and the American Dental Association (ADA) recommend that all children be seen by a dentist when their first tooth appears or by age one. After that, regular checkups are important for maintaining dental health and ultimately, helping their overall health.

By giving your children a healthy head start, it will set them on the right path for dental hygiene!

If you would like information on what dental insurance options are available for you and/or your children, please give us a call at (775) 883-6052. Jewels Benefits, Inc. - protecting what is most precious to you!

If you purchased health insurance through an Exchange/Marketplace for plan year 2020, whether or not you received financial assistance (a.k.a. Advanced Premium Tax Credit or APTC), you should expect to receive your 1095-A form mid-February, if you haven’t already.

If you received APTC, you need to use your 1095-A form to file Form 8962 with your tax return. If you don’t, you could lose your premium tax credit, and any Cost Sharing Reductions (a.k.a. CSR’s) you may have received, resulting in higher premiums on your health plan.

It is important to use both of these forms to file your taxes correctly and on time. These two forms determine the amount of your premium tax credit and records the credits you used to lower your health plan premiums.

Both forms are required when filing your tax return, and you need to file timely.

Any business built on customer service, repeat business, referrals and testimonials knows how important receiving those referrals and testimonials are, especially when they are received without asking. Thank you Randy… it is much appreciated!
