Then don't miss the 2026 Cambria County Youth Livestock Sale on September 12th, 2026 at 9:30 AM at the American Legion County Fair!

Many local 4-Hers have worked hard all year long with their project animals that will soon be ready to be purchased for the public. The sale brochure is below in the photos with more details on registering to bid, butchers for processing livestock, and other rules/regulations.

Also below are visual livestock cut sheets to help you know how much product you can get from each animal, such as cuts and weights. You can even see how much freezer space is needed for each animal. (Cut sheets credited by University of Minnesota Extension)

Today we had our Legislative Farm Tour at Moonshine Mine Distillery in Nanty-Glo, Pa.

The Cocho family operate Moonshine Mine Distillery and Moonshine Mine Saloon. They hold the title of the first legal distillery in Cambria County🥃 The buisness was established in 2017 by father-son duo Michael T. Cocho and Michael T. Cocho II. The family uses locally grown grain 🌽🌾 and century-old recipes 📜 that have been passed down to make their spirits. The family also operates Cocho's Evergreen Nurseries, Inc. where they grow Christmas trees 🌲🌲🌲

During the day Cambria County Farm Bureau also discussed current issues that need a push from local legislators. Topics included Pa school milk equipment, eminent domain compensation, farm bill, ag workforce act, and the latest issue importing more foreign beef.

Pennsylvania Farm Bureau President Tommy Nagle commented today on President Trump’s plan to import an additional 300,000 metric tons of beef in addition to already record-high beef imports.

"Pennsylvania Farm Bureau is extremely disappointed to learn that President Trump plans to continue to flood the American market with hundreds of millions of pounds of imported beef. The United States is already importing beef at a record-high level and this action would increase imports an additional 60 percent over the next three months.

American farmers and ranchers have been working hard to rebuild American beef herds that had to be sold off due to drought. Despite high prices in the grocery stores, prices paid to farmers have fallen significantly over the last two months and beef packing plants are shutting down across the country. Continuing to increase the amount of foreign-raised beef to fix prices at the grocery store will wipe out progress that American farmers have made and make us more reliant on foreign countries, weakening our national food security in the long-term.

We appreciate President Trump’s goal of reducing grocery costs, but short-term measures will have long-term negative effects for consumers and for our family beef farms that are making decisions on whether to retain or expand their herds. We urge the president to strongly reconsider his plan.”
