Heading toward Bremen this weekend? 🎪

The 33rd annual Bremen Towne Festival is Saturday, Oct 17, from 9am to 3pm in downtown Bremen. There'll be arts and crafts, food, and entertainment all day, and the parade kicks off at 10am.

It's hosted by the GFWC Bremen Junior Woman's Club and it's their biggest fundraiser of the year, so it's a great way to have some fun and support a good group at the same time.

Grab a funnel cake for us. See you there!

• $65 for Carroll County residents, $90 for non-residents
• A certified birth certificate is required

Leaves are starting to fall, which means it's time for a little fall checklist around the house. 🍂

• Clean out the gutters so rain drains away from your home
• Have your heating system checked before the first cold snap
• If you have a fireplace or wood stove, get the chimney inspected and cleaned
• Check for loose shingles or anything that might not hold up in a winter storm

A little upkeep now can head off a lot of headaches (and claims) later.

🎨 The 23rd annual Arts Festival of Carrollton is Saturday & Sunday, Oct 10–11, 10am–5pm at the Carrollton Center for the Arts (251 Alabama St). More than 70 artists and crafters, free performances, kids' activities, and food. Festival and parking are free!

🎷 Saturday evening, stick around downtown for Jazz at the Amp with the Carrollton Jazz Orchestra, 5:30–7:30pm at The Amp at Adamson Square.

Over in Villa Rica, the Hispanic Heritage Festival is Saturday, Oct 10, 11am–5pm at The Mill Amphitheater (106 Temple St) with music, dance, food, and vendors.

Carrollton Parks & Rec is hosting the Kick-or-Treat Classic, a one-day adult coed kickball tournament on Sunday, Oct 25, from 2–6pm at Lakeshore Park (613 N. Lakeshore Dr.).

Forget the jerseys. Come dressed in your funniest, spookiest, or most over-the-top Halloween costume.

This year's Fire Prevention Week theme is all about safe charging, and it's a good one. 🔋

Phones, laptops, power tools, kids' toys, e-bikes, scooters… so much of what we use runs on rechargeable lithium-ion batteries. When they're damaged or charged the wrong way, they can overheat and start a fire.

A few easy habits:
• Use the charger that came with the device (or one that's certified)
• Charge on a hard surface, not on the bed or couch
• Unplug once it's fully charged
• If a battery is swelling, smells funny, or gets hot, stop using it

Simple stuff, but it matters. Share this with someone who charges their phone under their pillow. 😉

The Louise Suggs Junior Girls Invitational returns to Sunset Hills Country Club in Carrollton, bringing together talented high school girls for a tournament that celebrates the history of golf while supporting the next generation of female players.

Launched in 2022 by a dedicated group of Carrollton volunteers, the tournament was created as a tribute to professional golfer Louise Suggs and her lasting impact on the game, particularly in expanding opportunities for women and young female golfers.

Suggs has deep ties to Sunset Hills Country Club. Her father, Johnny Suggs, was the first head golf professional at the private 18-hole course and helped establish the strong competitive tradition among women golfers at the club. Sunset Hills also hosted the LPGA Carrollton Open from 1950 to 1955, welcoming some of the sport’s most accomplished players, including Babe Zaharias, Betsy Rawls, and Patty Berg.

The tournament also honors the memory of Wayne Eidson, a longtime golf enthusiast who worked at Sunset Hills after retiring. Eidson received a golf scholarship to Polk Junior College before continuing his golf career at the University of Alabama. He later spent three years working as a caddy on the PGA Tour alongside notable players including Mac McLendon, Tommy Aaron, and Bruce Devlin.

Eidson strongly believed in creating more opportunities for young female golfers, a vision that remains an important part of the tournament’s mission. The champion of the Louise Suggs Junior Girls Invitational will receive the prestigious Eidson Award in recognition of that legacy.

The tournament will be held at Sunset Hills Country Club on October 16, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
