West Georgia Slow Money Investment Club

West Georgia Slow Money Investment Club We use a financing instrument that prioritizes long term food system viability. We're also invested in Biochar as a sustainable soil amendment and carbon sink.

West Georgia Slow Money (WGSM) Investment Club works to improve the viability of our local food system by providing low interest loans to local farmers and food businesses. Members:

Christina and Josh Davis - We are thrilled to support local food production and economic sustainability in west georgia by being members of the West Georgia Slow Money Club. We have been long time farmers market custo

mers and wanted to take a step further in helping grow the farm operations that provide for us. Our hope is to strengthen our community and increase the amount of food grown in our region. Pam and Perry Kirk - While a lot of attention is often focused on national and state politics, we believe that committed local activism is crucial to a bright future. We've helped settle refugees, and bring affordable home solar energy to the community. Slow Money is another way we can put our money to work to help maintain the vitality of local agriculture and food security. Terra Currie and Paul Feather - Paul co-founded West GA Slow Money out of deep concern for the fragility of our food system and the continued degradation of soil health. He believes that public health is inseparable from soil health, that remediation of damage done is the least we can do for our children, and that community resilience will only be achieved when we stop sending our money to billionaires and invest it here instead. Paul also believes that social justice in all its forms requires food sovereignty, and he is committed to materially supporting projects that liberate us all from degrading and violent economic systems. Carol and Jim Boyd -

Our very first lendee was Patricia Gladney-Heatherington at Farmers Fresh CSA. They work with over 50 growers and producers, to provide a wide assortment of seasonal vegetables, fruits and herbs every week. They also have access to fresh-baked bread, pastured/grass-fed eggs, meat and dairy, grains, jams & honey and other items produced in our area. With so many different choices available, they are able to offer very flexible packages. https://www.farmersfreshcsa.com

Warren Lee at Kindred Oaks Farm is our latest lendee. After spending time in Vermont and Massachusetts studying Religion, Environmental Studies and a Masters in Sustainable Design, he ultimately returned to Georgia to pursue his dream of farming the land he inherited from his grandparents. The land is steeped in family history, but also has a history that belongs to the indigenous people of the area, and is connected to the history of farming in this country. His hope is to honor all of these histories equally.

Here we are recently putting up a new hoop house. https://www.kindredoaksfarm.com

Feed the People Farms is one of our previous projects. Thanks to generous donations from a fall crowdsourcing campaign, FTP Farms has just brought on-board two lovely and sweet Pineywoods steers named Moses and Aaron! Slim is currently training them as oxen and by the end of the 2021 season the team will be able to aid us greatly in w**d cultivation, pulling carts and animal shelters, logging, and planting! https://ftpfarms.com
