Update from Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey regarding the NC Rate Bureau’s proposal for drastic rate increases that were out publicly a few weeks ago.

N.C. Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey has denied a request by the North Carolina Rate Bureau to raise homeowner insurance rates by an average of 42.4 percent.

Following Hurricane Idalia, we want to share our hopes that all of you are safe and sound 💗 If your property sustained damage, know that we’re here to help.

Here are a few initial steps to take:

✔️ Prioritize safety - Leave the property if there are immediate hazards or risks. Do not attempt to survey the damage yourself if it is not safe to do so.
✔️ Document the damage - If it’s safe to do so, take photos or videos of the damage, capturing wide-angle shots and close-ups as evidence for any claims.
✔️ Mitigate further damage - Again – if safe – take reasonable steps to prevent additional damage, such as covering a damaged roof with a tarp. Keep receipts for temporary repairs.
✔️ Give us a call - We can offer clients tailored advice and help facilitate communication with the insurance carrier.
