It’s easier than ever to DIY your investments. You can open an account for free, buy an index fund, and have AI answer an investment question in seconds.

But free advice can become very expensive when the wrong decision is made.

As your wealth grows, so does the potential cost of mistakes.

Selling the wrong investment can create an unnecessary tax bill. Holding too much company stock can expose you to concentration risk. Taking withdrawals from the wrong account can increase your lifetime taxes. Reacting emotionally during a market downturn can derail years of investment progress.

That’s why many successful investors choose to work with financial professionals.

Not because they can't buy investments themselves, but because they understand the value of having someone help them:

💸 Make tax-aware investment decisions
💸 Manage risk across their entire portfolio
💸 Navigate concentrated stock and equity compensation
💸 Coordinate investments with retirement, estate, and tax planning
💸 Avoid emotional decisions during volatile markets
💸 Identify opportunities and risks they may not see themselves

The value of advice isn't just what your advisor helps you earn. It's also what they can help you avoid losing to taxes, unnecessary risk, and costly mistakes.

DIY investing may be inexpensive.

A DIY mistake may not be.

If your financial life has become more complex, it may be time to have a professional looking at the whole picture.

The hardest part of raising kids around money isn't giving them a good life. It’s making sure that comfort doesn't turn into entitlement.😬

If you want your kids to handle money smartly as adults, here are 4 things they should understand before they turn 15:

1️⃣ Money is a tool, not a flex. It’s there to give you independence and choices, not to prove something to people you don't even like.

2️⃣ Just because you can buy it doesn't mean you should. There’s a big difference between cost and actual value. Understanding ROI matters way more than keeping up with friends.

3️⃣ You get paid for solving problems. Money isn't just something that shows up in an account. It comes from creating value, working hard, and taking initiative.

4️⃣ Nothing compounds like patience. In a world where everything shows up in two days, learning to wait, save, and invest is an actual superpower.

Preparing your kids for money is just as important as setting it aside for them. What’s one lesson you’re trying to pass down to yours?

“Buy, Borrow, Die” is a wealth strategy that has been circulating on social media. But how does it actually work in real life? 🤔💭

The basic idea is that instead of selling appreciated investments and immediately realizing capital gains, an investor may choose to borrow against their portfolio to create liquidity.

For example:
Selling $2 million of highly appreciated stock to fund a home purchase, business venture, or other large expense could create a significant capital gains tax bill.

Instead, an investor may be able to use a securities-backed line of credit to access cash while keeping the portfolio invested and deferring the capital gains that would have been triggered by a sale.

But there’s an important part social media often leaves out:

The borrowed money isn’t free.

You’ll pay interest on the outstanding loan, typically through ongoing payments, and interest rates can change. A decline in the value of the investments securing the loan can also create additional risk.

And most importantly, you need a plan for paying the loan back.

That could mean using future cash flow, a business sale, an upcoming bonus or equity compensation event, selling another asset, or strategically liquidating investments over time.

For some families, borrowing can be more efficient than selling investments and realizing a large taxable gain all at once. And under current tax law, certain appreciated assets held at death may receive a step-up in cost basis, potentially eliminating some or all of the unrealized capital gain.

But “Buy, Borrow, Die” isn’t a wealth hack. It’s a balance-sheet strategy that requires careful management of taxes, interest costs, cash flow, investment risk, and ultimately, repayment.

True wealth management isn’t about avoiding taxes at all costs. It’s about evaluating all of those tradeoffs and deciding when borrowing, selling, or a combination of the two makes the most sense.

Would you trust a “yes man” to manage your money? Probably not. So why let AI build your financial plan? 🤔

As our in-house AI expert, Sean leverages AI to build smoother client systems and accelerate research workflows. But using generative AI as a substitute for a comprehensive financial plan carries real risk.

AI pulls general data from the internet. It doesn’t know your unique goals, tax history, or family needs. And because these models are built to agree with you, asking if you should cash out your 401(k) to buy a home in cash might just get you a "sounds like a plan!" if you ask nicely.😬

A real financial advisor doesn't give cookie-cutter answers or validate bad moves. They tailor strategies specifically to your life.

AI can be a great assistant... it’s just a terrible decision-maker.

Let Guide My Finances give you real advice, backed by our years of experience and our fiduciary responsibility to put your best interests first. 💚

Congrats on the promotion, and the raise!🎉
..Now what? 🤔

Instead of increasing your spending habits (we see you eyeing that condo in the mountains), think about investing it strategically for continued growth over time.

Your 2026 model car works just fine. You don't need to add another mortgage to the mix. Your home doesn't need a six-figure renovation. And you definitely don't need to blow the paycheck before it even clears your bank account. 😅

Sure, treat yourself after a promotion! But maybe go out for a nice dinner, instead of increasing your monthly bills.

You could have instant gratification now, or you could retire comfortably. What would you choose? 👀

Restricted stock units (RSUs) are a great tool for building wealth... if you have a plan behind it. 😬

A mistake we see often is clients coming in with no strategy for their stock compensation, which can set you up for unnecessary taxes later.

Our team can help you turn this valuable tool into a growth opportunity that works for you and your goals!
