Most standard homeowners policies cap coverage for jewelry, watches, and other valuables — often as low as $1,000–$2,000 total, regardless of what your engagement ring or family heirloom is actually worth.

A scheduled personal property endorsement (or "rider") can cover specific items at their appraised value, often with lower or no deductible for those items.

If you've never had your jewelry appraised or scheduled, it might be worth a look.
